TGS 08: Microsoft has no immediate plans to delist XBLA games photo

The news in May that unsuccessful XBLA titles would be delisted seemed difficult to misinterpret -- especially since Mark Whitten, General Manager of Xbox Live, said it word for word. As of this week, it seems that isn't the case after all, at least if Microsoft Corporate VP Tom Schappert is to be believed.

According to Schappert, the information about delisting was "taken out of context" and there are no immediate plans to remove any of the XBLA library selections at this time. In fact, he mentioned the upcoming Dashboard overhaul as key in eliminating the issue, saying that the improvements to the service would make for easier sorting of titles.

Good news if a few of your favorite XBLA games aren't necessarily the most popular selections, I suppose. I think I would personally prefer to see poor games removed, but that's not very considerate of the people who put the time and effort into creating these games, is it?

I hate how the old crappy games based on online play are completely dead leaving me with no way to complete the achievements.

What are you talking about? That picture embodies this very news story. Microsoft doesn't want to let go of the cheese that is sub-par XBLA games.

Good, I'd hate to see a few games get removed just because they weren't bought much and weren't perfect, even if they had something interesting to offer.

@ Holyetheline

Find a friend who has the game, and then trade some online achievements back and forth. Now that some XBLA games are "dead" in terms of online play, it's very easy to abuse a lot of achievements that require ranked play. For example: very late on a Sunday night, I saw that absolutely nobody was on Bomberman Live, so I contacted a friend, asked him to help me do something, and we did some ranked play in which we continually got matched up time after time. Helped me get the "win 10 tournaments in a row" achievement that had eluded me till that point because of random luck.

Why do they have to remove the games? Why not just make the menus easier to navigate, then you wont care that there is so much crap there.

All they have to do is make a section for all the crappy old ports and 80s Atari remakes, then we can all safely ignore that section. See? problem solved.

I have never heard anyone complain about a company refusing to limit a customer's choices until this topic started to bang around on the net.

It sounds like they are backpeddling on the delisting stuff, but I am glad that it is because the content will be easy to get to. I cannot believe it took so long for the matter to be cleared up, though.
