I'm sure nobody saw this one coming.

Koei opened up its press conference today with a brief teaser for Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires, the obligatory strategic add-on for Dynasty Warriors 6. Officially announced for the PS3, Microsoft has not yet received approval from Microsoft, but an Xbox 360 release is more than likely. 

Little else has been revealed, but if you're a follower of the Dynasty Warriors games, you won't need to know anything else. Previous Empires games have put you in control of an army and territory as you invade other kingdoms, protect your own land and engage in alliances and plots to unite China under your rule. The games are often held up as superior to the titles they expand upon.

Koei already gave this one away with its TGS lineup, but the official announcement came today, in a plastic folder that reads "KOEI meets TECMO." So far, nothing further has been announced about that particular merger (and my Koei sources remain tight-lipped), but it looks like things are pretty solidified.

Hopefully the next-gen versions install, and don't require you to disc swap, like the old PS2 Empires.

Augh, I just played a PC demo of DW 6 and anything interesting in it was overwhelmed by how slow and sparse the thing felt. On the plus side, I also checked out the PC version of WO, which looks fantastic, renders tons of enemies, and has no slowdown at all.

I always love the empires games. Will be buying this. I really hope they do a warriors orochi empires game.
