TextAdventure bringing you hot typography action photo

TextAdventure is a new blog with the sole purpose of bringing you nothing but typography from videogames. A lot of videogames have used different styles of typography since the original Nintendo days and TextAdventure aims to record all of the best and unique typography out there.

The blog is helmed by the two man team of .tiff and Brilliam, two names most Dtoiders should recognize. The approach is very minimalistic in that only a picture of the game's title is posted, making TextAdventure a very simple site to keep up with on your daily blog browsing run.

Also, I'm not sure why, but seeing the Ultra logo again warms up my retro heart so much.

I can dig this. Awesome find!

One title I immediately noticed right away: The Adventures of Willy Beamish.

Please, someone else out there has to have played this Godly original adventure game.

Bookmarked.

This is actually a brilliant idea. And I love the way they executed it, with the classic OS theme. :)

Awesome, there are some classic game fonts out there, hopefully they show up on the blog so I can relive my gaming past!

Excellent idea! Not sure if it is exactly my "thing"...I am a graphic designer, thus typography is of interest to me, but nothing ever really struck me as typographically outstanding in the golden days of gaming. However, this should definitely hit a niche and should pick up some steam through other blog referrals. I'll keep an eye on this every now and then.

this seemed awesome at first, but there's very little discussion or categorization about the typefaces being used, or for example, what the designers were modifying. not even serif and sans-serif categories ? most of the images are title screens that haven't been cropped either, so you're staring at the other stronger elements of graphic design, rather than the typeface work.

I guess typography is interesting, seeing how some video game developers want to have a unique look that stand above the crowd for for video gamers to remember them by.

Thanks for the love Hamza!

Reginald, it's tough to actually put typeface information as most of these pieces were made one-of-a-kind by a graphic designer who breated their own font, or used a typeface and modified it so much that it's not really traceable. We also considered cropping images, but in the end, it just made more sense to leave it as it is, as part of the typographical genius sometimes is the way it's placed against the art.
