Tetris World Championship goes down October 16 photo

For the record, I hate everyone that is good at Tetris. There's so many other things you can be good at.

If you are one of those good players that I hate, in Los Angeles on October 16 The Tetris World Championships will take place at the University of Southern California’s Bovard Auditorium. Players there will compete in one-on-one battles on NES or PS3, or join a 2-player battle on PS3.

A press release says any fan, from beginner to expert, can try their luck at competing for the title of Tetris World Champion and a prize of $1,000.  For more information about the tournament structure and to pre-register, head to the event's official webpage.

Wish I lived over there...I'm really decent at the PS3 one, only found a few people that wipe the floor with me. On TetrisFriends people destroy me with T-spins.

Man, I love Tetris, and I thought I was pretty good until I got Tetris DS and tried playing online. Good lord are the Tetris pros good at that game. They play just as competently as I do, but at much faster speeds than I can even follow watching them. Kind of demoralizing, really.

T-spins are an abomination to the spirit of the game. Dexterity is not supposed to supersede logic when playing Tetris.

Watching someone slam down blocks in the dark is impressive, but watching finger gymnastics makes me question why the people bother to choose Tetris to begin with.

Tetris is probably the best game to get into competitively, because you know that it's still going to be around 10 years from now. Where as you could put thousands of hours into practicing on something like Mortal Kombat, and everyone could stop playing it in a year.

Who owns the rights to Tetris? I mean who makes the money... The original creator guy or some faceless corporation? Serious question.

Maybe mr. Carnage can show up and school people in the ways of finger tetris.

I'm pretty good at Tetris but no way I'm going from STL to LA for the chance to win $1000, come on really $1000 it wouldn't be worth the trip

Man, I remember doing pretty well with Tetris on the Game Boy. That was a long time ago - now I'd probably panic at speed 5 or something.

still love tetris. but i dont see how anyone can rotate or even move the pieces past level 13 fast enough to even make lines. the delay between presses is just enough to lose the piece you just got to the pit of off centerness. i usually just wait till its about to land and just start spinning the piece so fast it wont stick so i can slide it back and foth hoping to get it in a good spot.

I am addicted to Tetris. I absolutely love plucking hours and hours into getting those darn blocks into rows of four. I still play my original cartridge from 1989.
