Terminus est; SNK ends support for Neo-Geo photo

Seventeen years after its release, SNK Playmore has announced they will be ending support for their Neo-Geo home console, and its accessories. Apparently it has become too difficult to obtain replacement parts for the aging behemoth, so as of  August 31st, if your console craps out, you're going to have to learn how to solder and/or give up your inhibitions about fellating other dudes.

After almost two decades and millions of quarters, the 'Geo earned a reputation as the hardcore choice for fighters, shmups and the occasional cowboy-morphs-into-samurai beat 'em up. It may not have had the mainstream fanbase afforded by the Nintendos and SEGAs of the day, but it always remained the edgy alternative to that silly child's toy your little sister spilled her cereal all over.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Vaya con dios Neo-Geo.

I remember the NeoGeo as being that ever-unattainable console delegated to the corner of the Chip&Bits catalog embedded in every issue of EGM. It was damned expensive(the PS3 of yesteryear), but could play -honest to god arcade games, woot!-

The NeoGeo fighting games were the best, bar none. And Metal Slug, well, was damned awesome.

The fact that they were still servicing the things is sorta awesome:P

I agree that the Neo-Geo was far too expensive for what you got...but the payoff was that you could act elitist around "hardcore" gamers....

Neo Geo Games are the best games ever made. No really. Ever. Case in point:

At least Nintendo has our back...to a certain extent. Neo Geo will soon be on VC, so not all hope is lost.

Ah, that's going to make AES systems more expensive on Ebay. Oh well, there's always superguns and MVS carts.

Yes, you should that that NGPC, it's one of the funnest handhelds ever made!

SNK should make NGPC compilation games for the DS or Wii and include the little extras like the Astrology thing on it.

I still have my NeoGeo Pocket Color... good to pick up inbetween things. If they ever made a direct port or a decent upgrade to Card Fighters Clash... I would probably wet myself with joy. The attempt I saw them making for the DS didn't look that great to me.

@ The-Excel:

Nope, confirmed. It's happening, along with one other mystery console that hasn't been revealed yet.
