It seems that videogames aren't just a relationship strainer for we common mortal mole rats. Even athletes can find themselves so obsessed with gaming that their partners can't stand it anymore. Take professional tennis player Andy Murray, for example. He spent so much time playing Modern Warfare 2, among other games, that his girlfriend left him.
"He would spend all his time glued to them. In the end she just got fed up with it. She wanted more out of the relationship," a source tells British dishrag The Sun. Apparently, "all his time" meant seven hours a day, which really isn't all that bad compared to some of the Modern Warfare 2 players I've seen.
Murray's agent insists that he "doesn't play computer games any more than any other 22-year-old." Nevertheless, Kim Sears was alleged to have been driven "mad" by Murray's love of Modern Warfare 2, and it played a huge factor in the break-up.
Also, The Sun chose to use the pun "in-console-able" in the story. I am almost impressed by how bad that is.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
This makes me feel kinda good though, considering that I was worried because I spend about 3-4 hours playing games.
Now that's my racquet
My girl spends that much time on Facebook though, so we're even.
Andy Murray is a damn good tennis player, and I very much doubt this will change anything. Besides, if his girlfriend is to be believed, he already spends more time with MW2 than he does with her.

Second of all, the headline should read, "Tennis star's girlfriend dumps him because she fucking sucks".
You know what would be awesome, though? If she had literally dumped him over Modern Warfare 2. Like, if they were playing Hardcore and she was like, "Andy, look over here." And he turned his avatar towards hers and was like "What?" And she shot him in the head and said, "You're dumped, fucker." Or if he had gone online and she was playing in another dude's clan. And he's all "what the fuck?" and she's all "this is mah new man's clan...his k/d ratio is much betta, noob."
Holy shit...that was...insightful.
On an aside, 7 hours a day is quite a lot of time to do, well, anything.
Point being it's good she dumped him. I guess now she can just find another famous tennis player to date, right?
COD MW2's core mode is online multiplayer: a mode in which she wouldn't not be able to join in on.

If material possessions are ending a relationship, that relationship wasn't good in the first place. Of course, this is The Sun we're talking about so I question it's credibility.
That being said, while MW2 hasn't strained my relationship, however, I almost lost my boyfriend over Metal Gear Solid spoilers. It's not my fault I started the series 10 years before him and have a sexual obsession with Solid Snake.
If you think only women use shitty lame excuses to break up with their significant others, then I'm afraid you're terribly misinformed.
The man does nothing but train for Tennis and you leave him for having another hobby?? What a callous cow!
I bet it was nothing to the hours she'd occupy the bathroom, or the hours extra a day she'd have to sleep because she was "tired".
He's a pro tennis player. His downtime he needs more than most people, so I doubt we'd have been catchng him online, while she was asleep. That's a luxury for us regular folk.
Next time, bitch, join the fuck in with him playing MW2, instead of pretending you are busy with other stuff. Females can game too, and its not rocket science to learn how. I'm sure he would have happily shelled out, for a second 360 just so she could play too.
He plays tennis and video games. I'm not expert in the field of what warps a man's sexuality, but I've been told that those are both major factors in limpwristedness.
