Tenchu Z demo sneaks onto XBL with all the stealth of a ... um ... something ... photo

Maybe I missed the announcement, or maybe this was some clever bit of performance marketing on the part of Microsoft, but the demo for Tenchu Z seems to have appeared out of the shadows and is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Based on pre-release footage, and everything we've heard, we're less than excited about the title, but ninjas innately have so much potential for stabbing your head off with swords made out of pure awesome, that we just had to download the thing.

Reactions so far? Is this the new Ninja Gaiden of sneak-em-ups, or is it merely Wrath of the Black Manta-level ninjery?

I just got done playing the demo for a good solid hour and all I can say is...eh...

And I'm disappointed too, because I loved the last one on PS2 and Xbox. This one looks okay, and the gameplay mechanics are alright, but they're nothing special. And it definitely doesn't look like the videos they released for it.

And why the fuck do I have to kill an asian pirate/clown?

Hey, I loved Wrath of hte Black Ninja! lol

DLing now though I am not too excited about it. I DL every damn demo that comes on xbla. Tenchu has never really came crazy ninja style imo. I hope this one's a bit more fast paced stealth than the previous incarnations.

Fast-paced stealth sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Perhaps it is an oxymoron, I suppose I meant more of a rush. Like waiting for the mark to pass below you, jump down behind, slit the throat and jump back on the roof looking for a new mark.

Hate to break it to you Ocelot, but you can't do that. That would actually be awesome. All I could do in the demo was look down as some pissant samurai walked by underneath me, but I couldn't swoop down, slit his throat, and then jump back up.

I killed a dog too for some reason. I dunno I am really pissed that this demo sucks.

The first Tenchu on PSX was friggin amazing. Debug mode = Two Player Co-Op. The second one was pretty good too, especially with the level/mission creator. GOOD TIMES

yeah taz I just played it. I'd rather play Def Jam ICON with my left foot than this game. That may sound harsh but that same X X X combo that has been done more times than Jenna Jameson. The demo was deleted before I even stopped playing. I am so disappointed. Now, I will rent this to check out the multiplayer, but the singleplayer is almost guaranteed to suck if they don't push this game back a year or five to redo it completely.

Every Tenchu sequel since the original PSX game has been a disappointment.

As far as my friend and I could tell, there's no way to change the y-axis inversion in the demo... For me, that makes it completely unplayable.

@clarenence

Thanks for the heads up, I was more interested in VR than Tenchu.

I read a Review of the game about a month ago. Basically it stated that the game was "Average" but still a damn unique experience.

Cant wait to get home to try it out

This is my first experience with a Tenchu game. They got the ninja stuff down...except the crucial part of actually making me feel like I'm a ninja. Half-baked stealth and half-baked combat system. bleh

Didn't really feel like much of a stealth game... I fell of a rooftop in front of a guard, about twenty feet away, and he didn't respond at all.

None of the character animations really mesh with each other. Example: Jump at a wall, you're instantly grabbing on. Climb up, and you're instantly standing up.

And there's a killable dog. Not cool.

Craptacular game you got there.

"And there's a killable dog. Not cool."

that's gotta win idiotic comment of the year. in case you haven't noticed, quite a few games actually feature killable HUMANS. yes, HUMANS.

(sidenote: hitler was apparently inordinately fond of his german shepherd, and many psychopaths can only emotionally connect to animals.)

(sidenote 2: just because you CAN do something in a game, doesn't mean you have to, refer to GTA bla bla bla bla)

Actually Pete, most psychopaths get their start as children by harming animals, and then move on to harming people. Do some research before you make retarded comments.

what was kinda neat was when my female ninja fell into the pool of scat. I climbed out and while I walked around smell clouds emanated off of me. One of the guards was all like "WTF Smells?" in japanese.

ULTIMAT - actually there are many different subclasses of psychopaths, which you would know if you had anything more than rudimentary knowledge (probably derived from watching TV).

To quote: "ALIENATED SOCIOPATHS have never developed the ability to love, empathize, or affiliate in real life with another person. They will show more emotion toward their pet or a personal artifact than toward a person."

See this page for a more detailed analysis:

So maybe you should do some research before you post ignorant comments. PWND
