Military Madness: Nectaris is 3D turn-based downloadable strategy game. Similar to SEGA’s Shining Force, except with shell-spewing tanks instead of steel-coated armadillos and dragons, I’ve found the game tickles an itch that I haven’t been bothered enough to scratch within the last five years. (It was a small itch.)
Nectaris hit Xbox LIVE Arcade earlier this September, but the PSN version just launched a little over a week ago. Since I didn’t know what the hell it was about, I decided to give it a spin. Subsequently, the above TMT was created.
Give it a look and tell us what you think. I'm digging it thus far, but I've only sunk a few hours into it.
* I love Military Madness. The PSN version is good, but the vehicle design could be better. Sometimes is hard to disnerce which is only seeing the vehicle image.
I played the demo and, honestly, it was awful. Have no problem with the graphics and the gameplay, but the level design was incredibly unbalanced.
On one of the levels you fight an army of harrier-like airships, that can move through the entire map without obstacles, are the strongest units in the map, and have more defenses than several tanks put together... using tanks (with no anti-air weapons) and troops (which might as well be shooting pebbles). The only way to defeat it is by waiting for the AI to do something really stupid for no good reason (like landing to let you hijack the ships), and pray that you have some troops alive to take advantage of it...
Seriously, play the demo before getting it. You might be dissappointed otherwise...
I played the hell out of this game on the TurboGrafx-16 and my dad was such a fan of it, we bought the PSone port for his birthday a few years back. Yes, the first appearance of enemy air units kicks your ass, but that's only because the previous levels are absolute cakewalks and you haven't had to use any real strategy, like forming intercept lines and sneaking troops in to conquer the enemy base.

Still, looks pretty awesome, actually.

The music from the original was way better.
