Here's the concept: Take tower defense and mix it with card-based strategy games. If you're a total fu*king geek like I am, that sounds amazing. That's what Creature Defense is. And you know what? It's pretty good.
We have the folks at Hudson to thank for this nifty little PSP downloadable. A pleasant little surprise. I've been playing the everloving crap out of this lately. Look for a review soon.
For now, check out our TMT on the game. I blow through some tutorial screens and jump right in. You'll see me play through 16 or so waves. Laugh as I forget to place archers. I just have to watch the flying creatures go right by. Toward the end of the video, I've learned my lesson, and have them placed and leveled up.
I won't get into detail on how it's played (review coming soon), but you can see that Creature Defense is a pretty cool game.

I thought the game was going to be "meh" at best before watching that video.
Just might have to grab it.
Oh, and it seems to avoid one of my BIGGEST pet peeves about tower defense games: The "archers" usually can't do anything except hit flying enemies (which are usually rare). The ones here can hit most things making them SIGNIFICANTLY more worthwhile.
That's really the only thing I don't like about PixelJunk Monster is that the gun turrets can't hit anything but flying enemies meaning they just sit there 90% of the time not giving me much incentive to upgrade them.
played it and it isn't bad but with pixeljunk, fieldrunners and crystal defenders I am a bit tired of the tower defense thing- I think my favorite of those was fieldrunners because it was short and sweet.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Btw, the tutorial music reminds me of Phoenix Wright. O_o
