With all the hype and controversy about terrorists doing evil terrorists things involving terror, addictive multi-player and shiny graphics -- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has showered in a crazy amount of love (and hate) each week leading up to its release.

But, quietly trembling and sobbing, sitting in the darkest corners of the first person shooting genre, you will find Modern Warfare 2's "little brother," Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex for Nintendo's casual gaming child, the Wii.

Gone are the next-generation, high definition polished graphics, replaced with loading screens and awkward controllers. To be fair, I've been playing an unhealthy amount of Modern Warfare 2, so having to rewind, and relearn the original MW with the Wiimote proved to be tricky -- which is evident in our Ten Minute Taste.

So....it's a port.
Why couldn't this have been released a year ago?

This.... actually looks kinda good!
I never played MW before. What aside from graphics what are the differences between this and the real MW games for ps3/360???

looks pretty good. shame it's so late. I don't think I would want to play fpss with the wiimote though.

Damn that watermelon really shows the harsh limitations set on by the Wii.

Also, why not adopt the responsiveness that pc fps have with a mouse. Seems the targeting is too slow to compare with controllers or keyboard/mouse

This looks better than I was expecting. Too bad I can't play an FPS with the Wiimote to save my life.

i love how he's like 'knife the watermelon!', and he pauses for a second as if to say '...is.. is that the watermelon?'

@dwolfwood, cap123: If your notable gripe is with the watermelon-rendering technology in this port, I'd say the port overall can be chalked up as a success.

If I didn't already play this on the 360, I'd be very interested in picking this up. As a few of you have already said, though, it's a bit late. If the release was parallel to the release on the other consoles, I probably would have gone with the Wii version for the controls... oh well.

The graphics looks better than I expected, but the controls seems absolutely terrible... I predict a lot of frustrating deaths, especially in veteran. Now maybe the others control presets are better, but I doubt it.

This actually looks almost exactly the same as the 360/Ps3 versions (except without the polish and gleam, a few rendering hiccups and motion controls) It this was released along side the original way back it could have dropped some jaws by how great it looks and gotten some developers over to the wii. Too bad

@instant_awesome

it could go either way. You could say "if the melon is the only thing you can complain about, I'd say they did a good job"

or

"if they can't render a melon what hope should I have that the rest of the game is even competent?"

Looks like pretty much the 360/PS3 versions without bumpmapping and a couple of LoD notches down, so pretty much what you'd expect from the Wii.

Controls don't look too bad, but I severely doubt you'd want to play through on veteran with them, they just aren't up to the standard of a conventional controller.

Holy crap...it actually looks...good? If you squint while watching the SD video in a window, it almost looks like the 360 version.

I do like the loading screens directly after the loading screens though.

That actually looks pretty good. And if it controls as well as The Conduit does, then it'll be a great game.

lol i would die so fast in that game. a ton of people love shooters on the wii for the controls but its for that reason that i dislike them so much.

It's quite attractive looking. Rey, you need to pick a control setting that makes the entire screen turn as though it were mouse-look (e.g. Expert controls on Metroid Prime 3). I'm sure there's a choice in there for that.

lol it looks horrendous. The watermelon all blocky and the textures are muddy as, well... a puddle of mud. If you think it looks good, make sure you go fullscreen and watch with HD on. UGLY!

If you've never played it on anything else, I guess you might not notice or care, though. Also, who doesn't already have MW1? And who in their right mind would pick the Wii version over PC or one of the other consoles?

Awkward controllers?
What are you talking about my friend?
Aiming and moving without dual analog is a breath of fresh air. Go to your local arcade and tell me how many first person shooters there use dual analog controls. You won't find any. They use a gun that you point at the screen.
The same as the Wii.
Most gamers have only one console. Only 1 out of 10 have two. And only 1% have three.
Modern Warfare Reflex is an absolutely fantastic game for the Wii, which has few great games. Give props where they are due.

*raises hand* I don't own MW1 on anything: Found the tank standoff in the demo too difficult, and was low on funds, so never bought it.

This looks playable at least, but i'd rather get it for PC at a budget price, thanks.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the hate for the controls, as I'd personally take Wii controls over dual analog any day and if this had release the same date as the 360 and PS3 versions it'd have been the one I got but now that I have MW2 on 360 I have no desire to go back and play the first one. If I did however, it would be this version for the controls.

This is just Sad, the Game just actually plays, looks and load much faster and better on my notebook than the Wii and I just have an Intel Graphics Card...

You can't blame the controls for: "Go to Station 1..." ~walks to Station 3~

This article is kind a strange, I readed other impressions and had been very positive about the game. Is like you didn't even wanted to play game in first place and you only did it because there wasn't any other person that could take the task.

For a wii game it looks quite ok, i think, I hope they do this with MW2 a LOT faster, then I can get it for Wii iso for 360/PS3, itw way cheaper that way :-) As I noted on my blog a few months back, with COD3, the extra controls added a LOT more to the gameplay then the fancy pancy HD-graphics...

If I hadn't finished the campaign already on 360, I'd really go for this...

People think the wiimote isn't good for FPS? It's way better than dual analog, but not quite up there with mouse + WADS
