Earlier this weekend, I decided to drop the weights and pick up the Dual Shock. This kind of recreation isn’t anything new, but the thing I chose to play sort of is: the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PS3-exclusive beta. Above is ten sweet, sweet minutes from my second match of that afternoon.
One thing you’ll notice in this latest Ten Minute Taste is that the Attacker side didn’t know what they were doing, or at least, didn’t care about the objectives. My team and I were in their spawn as a result, giving them some hell with bullets and fire from our armor. It was a spanking, no doubt.
Even though Florence and assassins have dominated my free time from Sunday afternoon on, I’m still thinking about BF:BC2. I obviously dug it and am planning to jump back into it in the near future. What do you guys think about the beta? The TMT? Chocolate pudding? Tell us.
Actually, to further what inque said, I had to enable noScript to get this page to load, since the video actually crashed my entire system, Task Manager and all. I'm not sure why.
The beta is awesome so far. Haven't run into any glitches or bugs so far. Also love that as soon as you earn enough xp to unlock a weapon, you have access to it in game.
Looks like Bad Company 2 continues to live up to the Battlefield standard of absolutely amazing sound effects. I am definitely looking forward to it.
One thing I'm confused about though. If your health regenerates ie. Halo, MW2, etc. in BC2, then how come the Medic class allows you to drop health kits? Seems like it'd be pretty redundant if hiding behind cover pretty much accomplished the exact same thing. I loved being Support in BC1 because I knew that other classes actually depended on my support (well that, and the M60 was such a godly machine gun that I could take down Humvees and helicopters with it by myself). I don't see what good there is being Medic now other than the defibrillator paddles.
I'm in the BETA, and I must say this game SUCKS! The mutliplayer is a straight cluster. Yeah I know it's war, but this game is BAD. When I play MW2 I'm usually in the top 2 on my squad, so I know how to handle a FPS. The controls feel weird, and the maps are WAY TOO BIG. I didn't enjoy it at all. It feels like SOCOM Confrontation, but more generic. You couldn't pay me to play this game, no seriously it's that bad
@ JZAMFL
Dude settle down. It's his opinion, you can't force him to change the way he feels about the game. I've enjoyed it so far, a lot actually, but there are still a few problems with it. It's mostly due to the players so far though. Too many people snipe and aren't going for the targets, too many people like to stand around the UAV, no one revives me (I get resuscitated maybe once a round), there are some assholes with mics, teams tend to give up when their ticker gets low...and it goes on and on. I personally love the controls. They feel exactly like in BF1943 which came naturally to me. It's funny because I played the original Bad Company demo and did not enjoy it at all. This game will be preordered though.
@ Gee-Man
Medics still provide faster health regeneration than if you stand around waiting. If I throw down a pack near my teammates, there are times where I'll get 200+ points from healing them which I will not complain about. Plus a revive nets you 50 points which is equivalent to a kill. What I also love about the medics is their 3rd unlocked gun. That thing uses 200-bullet clips but has crazy recoil. The 4x scope really helps me. It's great because I've gotten 4 or 5 kills at a time since I don't need to reload often. Throw in my tracer gun as my sidearm and I become the ultimate support character. Medics are absolutely necessary for the attacking team as a revive restores a point to the ticker count.
If nothing else TheJesusNinja26 was effective at weeding out people like JZAMFL and ChronosWing who freak out at some opinion other then their own. Seriously, ladies.. calm down. It's just a fucking opinion about a video game.
Great sound, though the guns could use more oomph. Not a huge fan of the blood splatters around the screen - they don't look good. And that cut away was just mean.
But, the game looks immensely fun, and is something I've been looking forward to for a while. Shame we didn't see any vehicle control, though, or shooting through walls.
@TheJesusNinja26- I'm not going to say your opinion sucks, but have you considered that MW2 and BC2 are actually two very different types of "realistic" war games? I tried to use Battlefield-style tactics in MW2 at first, and I got utterly destroyed. I'm sure if you attempted to camp and grenade spam (let's be honest, those are 2 very common strategies in MW2) in BC2, you'd end up on the losing side quite often. Or who knows, maybe you're just bitter because you're losing.
@CelicaCrazed- Ah, that cleared some things up for me, thanks! I was worried that the Medic/Support class was going to lose its relevance in BC2, which would be a shame because I've always enjoyed the beautifully destructive combo of keeping my surrounding teammates alive while laying down a cutting swath of machinegun fire into the opposing squad. Shame I won't be able to maintain vehicles at the same time anymore.
Oh, one more thing. When using the defibrillator paddles to revive allies, how much time do you have before it's too late? Just wanna know if a downed ally is a first priority thing, or if it'd be smarter to finish off any remaining enemies before attending to the wounded/dead. I'd try to find out on my own, but none of the videos I've seen show them in action.
I like the look of it. Sorta resembles "metal-gear-ish" graphics. Large open expanses are just my sort of thing. If I have any money left over from MAG, I'll try this game for sure.
@ Gee-Man
I think the respawn time is around 10 seconds but I don't know if the body remains there if the person waits giving you time to revive them. If an enemy is attacking you directly then I say try and take them out first...if there is not too many of them. If your downed ally is on your squad, they'll be able to respawn on you anyways so it's usually better to play it safe. It's not like your teammates can see that you are standing over their lifeless body either so you don't have to worry about them yelling at you if you don't revive them right away haha. If the enemy is aware of you but aren't firing at you yet, you can usually make the revive in time. The 5 second recharge time means you'll be switching back to your gun pretty frequently though. Of course if you are the attacking team and your ticker count is getting low, I'm usually doing nothing but reviving anyone and everyone. Also just throwing down health packs as you move up helps a lot since your teammates will use them as they follow up behind you.
If you love playing as medics, you'll love this version for sure. The hardest part is just getting comfortable with guns they use with their medium-short range and high recoil.
I'm rank 18 and have to say for a beta, it's not to bad. They need to work on some things, but Overall I can rest easy selling the pre-order now at work.
What i have to say... Base-rape sucks... But violence in BC2 has a totally different dimension.
I love it. Avalanche of bullets, and the endless sea of fire and smoke.
Don't like it, don't fucking play it. It takes the piss out of MW2. No amount of "I'm fucking great at CoD so I KNOW what a good game is" is going to persuade anyone. You should know what Battlefield is and if it's not your bag, let someone else have your fucking code.
I too used to come in top 1 or 2 of my team in CoD, like 35 for 5 rounds and shit, but it was a fucktonne LESS FUN and LESS INTERESTING than Bad Company 2 beta.
Maps too big + Vehicles = solved.
Maps too small + epic killstreaks = hectic + silly
MW2 was awesome at first, but running round and round and round and round a tiny little map, checking the same spots over and over and over and over and over, every contact being a case of first to the trigger unless you come up behind someone, then running round and round and round and round etc etc etc, get's pretty boring pretty quickly.
MW1 - Prestiged 3 times - loved it.
W@W - Prestiged once - bored
MW2 - Rank 58 - bored - got BFBC2 beta and MAG beta.
Battlefield is all about support, team play, long range combat and tactics.
Call of Duty is all about one man glory, respawn-a-thon, frag-fest and twitchy shooting.
I tried to play some MW2 last night, but after a minute or two i thought "This is wank, fuck this, I'm going back to the BFBC2 beta"
There was my mind made up.
I'm currently downloading the MAG beta too (Thanks Destructoid!) so we'll see which of the three will keep me interested the longest.
I'm just hoping the beta's last long enough for me to not have to go back to Modern War 2 anytime soon.
tru. i`m even not goint go check MW2. Gameplay movies stinks enough. It`s some kind of damn arcade for kids. :/
I can`t belive that over 5 mio ppls. spent their money for that. (i can understand xbox users - thay don`t have better games - excepting BadCompany 1...)
Frostbite 2.0 moves gaming to the totally new levels of entertainment...
@ You jackweeds getting offended because I don't like BC2. I played the first one and LIKED IT. In COD I never camp and I only play squad based match types. I have more fun with squad based play. If you like it good for you, but I don't, deal with it. I wish I could give someone the code because I'm not going to play it. Calm the hell down. Maybe you flew off the handle because how frustrated you are with COD. You sound like some socialist/communist regime that bans any form disagreement. Can it Pol Pot!
@CelicaCrazed & Runtheplacered - Congratulations on knowing what a Democracy is. I will write your names in during the next Super Tuesday election. You WIN!
@ Jesus - You know the only reason people got irked by your comment was because all it really said was...
"I'm really good at CoD so I know good games, and this game sucks"
Get your fucking head out of your arse. We're all the kind of gamers that read blogs, hence we generally put a lot of time into our gaming, hence we all are good at some games or others. It doesn't make us experts, and "it sucks" is not a good enough explanation for someone who seems to consider themselves an FPS expert because they play as much of the most main stream arcade shooter as the fucking rest of us.

@ D-roy: Can't wait! My only complain about the video is: What's up with the beige overlay?...
Well, if its supposed to take place in the middle east, then its right. When I was in Iraq, everything just gets washed with sand and grime, and all the buildings, cars and stuff turn bland beige. You get eye strain after awhile. Maybe this is one example where realism brought to gaming is a negative.
Gotta watch the snipers, Brad! Nice to see, although I didn't see much terrain deformation (I assume that's because you were on an more outdoor level though.) And man, is that the MEDIC gun? Because that thing ripped through a heli like it was nothing!
Looks good, but it still seems like still like a valley. In regular Battlefield there are a lot of maps that aren't just base, road, then base. I feel Bad Company in general seems a little bit limited in terms of creative map design due to being restricted by the power of console gaming. Not that that won't prevent me from buying it.
A COMPLETE UPSET !!! IN THE GRAPHIC DEPARTMENT, SEEMS DESTRUCTION 2.0 MAKES EVERY THING COMPUTER BOXY LIKE DIGITAL DISTORTION, I JUST HOPE THIS IS ONLY IN THE DEMO.. THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST BATTLEFIELD I DONT BUY..
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But really, the oblivious opponents really don't do the game any justice.
Also I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove chocolate pudding.
It really could use more beige. Also some more gray would be nice....

Go back to MW2 then, this Beta by itself is better than that grenade spamming, tiny ass map having POS that is MW2.

I'm keeping fingers crossed that when BC2 gets to full release the servers will be big enough to handle it.
Apart from that, having a whale of a time.
