Jansen is so awesome. Sometimes when I'm looking in the mirror trying to figure out if my dad is my biological father by comparing physical features I yell "dancing with Jansen" for no other reason than for pure joy.

Wow, I didn't know people hated Jansen. I thought he was pretty awesome though he wasn't one of main members. I thought it was the kids who got all the hate in that game.

I agree with both Jansen and Vanille. I didn't hate Enzo but I didn't love him either, I just kind of accepted his place in the story. Everybody else I am unfamiliar/indifferent to.

Jansen's great! No one hates Jansen! he was the entire reason I played Lost Odyssey with English voices and you could tell the voice actor was having a lot of fun recording his lines
Vanille is possibly the worst Squenix character ever made IMO.
Having a tragic backstory does not forgive being annoying, NOTHING forgives beyond annoying, terribly written and quite frankly, just boringly designed...
And that is why FF13 is never forgiven. Oh wait, I was talking about Vanille, same with her.

I love Vanille, favourite character in FFXIII.

Who doesn't like Princess Peach? Princess Peach beats the crap out of people with a frying pan, floats around like a boss, and can become PURE FIRE.
Jansen...hated¿ Seriously¿ Dude was awesome. I loved all the playable characters from Lost Odyssey. Everything and everyone in Lost Odyssey were great. I'm not sure if She-Hulk was "that" hated. It's just that ComboFiend and the online combofrauds may have made your friends real salty.

I've always found it kind of interesting the way certain completely fictional characters can draw the ire and hatred of gamers. I think there's a general overestimation of how much we're supposed to "like" a character. i once heard someone say they "hate Loz from advent children because..umm...he hated his hair....

Other than the ultra-superficial reasons (which I think are somewhat perpetuated by the people who make the games, especially in Japan) I think a large part of it is simply group-think and taking pleasure in a sort of sublimated form of active rejection. The vibe I get is that it's kind of fun to decide who's cool in a video game then make fun of who isn't. Even making flash games about punching them in the face. It mirrors the social world. It's kind of annoying, and it can skew the characters themselves as you so astutely pointed out a character like Vanille who is one of the more well-rounded and transformative, but acts like a child initially as a result of personal trauma. Didn't hurt that she was probably into other women, as well.....

Yeah gotta jump on the good ship Tingle. He is probobly one of my favorite entries in the Zelda universe since he first showed up. Always cracks me up and has more depth as a character than Link ever will.

As for Navi, I didn't hate her. She was annoying, but no more than a younger sibling. When I hear people say they hate her, I always assumed it was that affectionate kind of hate. Seems I was wrong.

I agree with Jansen, Raiden, and Navi, all the others can go **** themselves (I do not curse in a Chad article). Chad we need more of you around here, I see you as much as I see Niero around these parts.
Navi was less annoying than she's been made out to be, but then she was replaced by Tatl in Majora's Mask anyways, so there's already a less annoying glowing ball fairy that gives you info in exchange for not eating her for health.
Raiden is a great character, I seriously don't understand the hate against him. Snake goes out of his way to help the guy out, and even though he expresses his confusion out loud (I like to imagine that he was supposed to make an Owen Wilson "Wuh...?" face) he was still a nice way to introduce me to the series, and makes MGS2 my favorite game (even if Snake Eater was the best one they made structurally).

I'm so glad you included Edward. I actually loved the segments of the game where he is a party member, especially in that all-to-brief segment when you have Cecil, young Rydia, Rosa, and Yang. He's a fantastic support character, and I love his attack animation.
Plus he has some of the more memorable scenes. The night in Kaipo where he goes out and plays his song for Anna will forever be etched in my mind, such a beautiful scene. Even when that swamp hag attacks. Sure, Cecil could have just brushed that monster off, but that was Edward's moment of freaking triumph.

I too have always liked Raiden. I kind of like his Ninja persona less, because now he's gone from a lovable idiot knockoff of Snake, to a really forced knockoff of Gray Fox.
As far as fighting games go, people really seem to hate Ken Masters in Street Fighter. Yeah, he's kind of cheap and a cocky douchebag, but you know what? He wears red. Like Rodimus Prime. Rodimus Prime is cool!

This talk of Jansen makes me want to play Lost Odyssey! After playing The Last Story today, I have decided I need more Mistwalker in my life. Too bad LO is on the only current gen console I don't have... :(

With the exception of Baby Mario, She-Hulk, Jansen, and Enzo, I disagree with everyone on this list, especially Slippy Toad. I absolutely hate him, not because he's annoying and can't fly to save his life, but because he's annoying, can't fly to save his life, AND he's the only character who tells you how much health the boss has, forcing me to keep him alive EVERY TIME.
Also in terms of Baby Mario, I use to hate him because of his crying, but then one of my friends pointed something out: Baby Mario only cries when you get hit. Therefore if you don't want him to cry, don't get hit. Simple as that.
