Telltale says Tales of Monkey Island may come to XBLA photo

Feeling left out because the new Tales of Monkey Island is coming to Wii and PC, but not to your friendly local XBLA? Fear not. It's not a matter of if, but when. Telltale's design director, Dave Grossman, said in a recent Eurogamer interview that it was a possibility:

"We didn't so much decide not to put it on Xbox Live Arcade as we decided not to put it on XBLA now," Grossman said. "Normally what we do is PC and one of the other platforms, and we've been bouncing back and forth between them ... Yeah, I mean I wouldn't rule it out. We might do that one later on."

In the meantime, if you have a PC (and if you don't, what rock do you live under?), you can catch the first Monkey Island episode, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, this July 7th. Mac users, don't despair: Grossman says that a version will come as soon as they can afford to get it out there.

If it is not coming out on STEAM I just wont buy it. Thats it, I refuse to have their damn digital distribution system.

What's wrong with their digital distribution system? You buy the game from their website and then you download it. It's hardly problematic, is it?

wtf? i thought the whole reason they were doing this is BECAUSE of xbox and xbl? who the hell worth anything actually has a wii to use it for the wii store?

im happy its coming to the 360, but shit im surprised anything that comes to consoles and the first thought is, is there any reasons why to go to anything else but the 360

A lot of people seem confused about this. Lucasart's MI1 remake is coming to XBLA and PC. Tales of Monkey Island is, for now, coming to Wiiware and PC. Just like their Strong Bad series is.

I second SurplusGamer, there isn't a 'digital distribution system'. You go to the website, log in and click on a link to download/redownload. Maybe you should check before making silly statements.

Fuck me, if you order a season of something they'll even send you a boxed copy for the price of shipping when all episodes are released. What's not to like?

Oh and I think they are 'doing this' more because of the adventure game fans that have been starving for a new Monkey Island than any single platform (although I bet their games sell best on PC).

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, I can't wait forTales of Monkey Island and the Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, I nearly weed a bit when I saw them announced.

I guess they don't want the games to be competing with each other on XBLA.

As a purchaser of all the Strong Bad CGfAP series, I can vouch that downloading these games from the Telltale website is easy as pie and not intrusive or invasive at all.

I think you have do install a downloader, but it's tiny and never runs in the background after closing it or anything.

PC is the way to go for these types of games, and as someone said above, you get an actual BOXED copy sent to you once the series is complete for pre-ordering.

Best $35 I've ever spent and I haven't even played the damn game yet.

Whether or not this comes to XBLA is dependent on how well the recent Sam & Max Hit the Road XBLA and Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures XBLA fare.

Ok, I will give the tell a tale thing a go. But they should know better (as a business), that they would have more sales on STEAM, more people use it. Thats what bugs me, they are going to release a classic game and they will go digital distribution in their rather obscure platform instead of STEAM (most of the people who games on the PC has STEAM).
I have trust issues...

They do distribute through Steam.

If there's a delayed Steam release it's probably just because they want to maximise the number of sales through their own website (which are probably more profitable for them) before releasing to third parties.

@Velt
Telltale sells it personally because then they don't have to split the profits. I'm guessing that putting it on steam wouldn't help sales much because those who love MI will seek it out and buy it on any service they can get it on and even though steam has a large community very few are adventure gaming fans so it wouldn't make sense share the profits right off the bat. I'll tell you Telltale's plan, they'll sell it exclusively on their site and get the bulk of the sales from hardcore fans then a few months down the road they'll release it on Steam (like they did with Homestar runner) and/or XBLA (like they did with Sam and Max) to pick up a few more sales.

Timmeh thats the point, you can get the games but sometimes is just after the season is complete and you can buy the whole pack, is not like an instant release.
