Tekken 5 now available for download on Japanese PS3s photo

PlayStation 3 owners in Japan and Hong Kong got a surprise download today: Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. This previously PSP-only title is now availble to gamers in the East for "2000 yen ($16.80) on Sony's Japan store, and $125HK ($16.07) on the Hong Kong store."

Is it upgraded for the PS3? Yes. Unlike other consoles who offer downloadable content, Sony seems pleased to pack its downloadable ports with a little extra firepower -- thanks to a little extra hard drive space. According to Sony, Dark Resurrection will run "at full HD (in up to 720p or 1080p) at a promised 60 frames per second" and allow fans to play as "boss character Jinpachi Mishima" for the first time. No word yet on a U.S. release, though honestly it can't be long.

Other consoles' downloadable content--

Ooh! Ooh! I know! You're talking about the Wii, right? The Nintendo Wii. It's gotta be. YES! I knew it! Hahahrkghg!

I'll take my winnings of a lifetime supply of Nair in a plain brown sack, please.

I think this is the first REAl digitally distributed console game? And no those 50 meg, Art student created, internet flash game ports on the 360 hardly count.

Nintendo fanboys don't want upgraded games. They want the same stuff they've been playing for years. Why do you think Twilight Princess sold so well. BA-ZING!

I'm talking about the Wii and 360. Lack of hard drive space hurts downloads.

That is a great step, hopefully they will have the bandwidth to keep the servers up and running.

I would be supprised if MS doesn't already have some large title activity planned and Sony just beat them to the punch.

Alien thats harsh words yo. If I want to ride a horse in tights and a skir- I mean tunic, play with swords and talk to fairies, then.. .. sometimes I do question playing Zelda. Then I get the Master Sword. Makes me feel like a man. Yeah. NIN : Big Man with a Big Gun

Nah, Link just wields the Master Sword to compensate for other things.

Hahahahaha.. oh man thats homo. I have a Master Sword tattoo, in the pedistal of time on my arm. Ive been playing Zelda in my diapers so...its dedication... so even if they put out borderline crap AND he's running around in pink, their's nothing I can do but be a fanboy.

It's not lack of hard drive space, it's caps on downloads. There's nothing stopping Nintendo or Microsoft from offering 1 gig+ downloads. In teh Wii's case, it's definitely impractical (unless you don't mind dumping your SD data whenever you want to download something new) but in the 360's? Look at the downloadable films and television as proof of large downloads. Hell, they've had 1 gig+ demos on the 360 already.

Close, but no cookie.

Sony still sucks. This does not change that fact. Sony used to win, but now they lose. PS2 won. PS3 is pathetic. Wii60 ftw.

Lack of space makes them put caps on downloads. It's a vicious cycle.

But I jsut told you, there isn't a cap on all downloads for the 360. How big was the demo for Lost Planet? Or Prey? How big was the promo video for Viva frickin' Pinata? Well over 50 megs.

The only reason for the caps on XBLA titles is because of Microsoft's retarded decision to ensure that people who bought a memory card could play them. I'm certain that this oversight will be fixed - in fact, I've got five bucks that says it will be gone by the end of '07. But look at all the other content on there other than XBLA. All sorts of trailers, media and demos far exceed the 50 meg limit. Some of them are (*GASP!*) bigger than the download of Tekken.

That's what I was saying, just taking longer to write it out.

(The Wii, as much as I love it, is pretty hopeless for large downloads until they allow us to use external USB drives as they'd originally stated.)

20 gigs isn't enough space for the downloads offered on xbl. I have to constantly delete stuff off of my xbox to make room for more downloads. I wonder if a similar situation will happen with dvd's on the xbox. Although people are angry that sony imposed the blue ray technology in the ps3, maybe, just maybe, sony was thinking ahead and expecting the size of games to grow that much. The fact that microsoft is only offering 20 gig harddrives and no other alternatives shows that they weren't really thinking ahead. It will be a sad day when a version of a game will be better on the ps3 because the blue ray disks can hold more data.

Actually this has changed me from extremely not likely to buy a ps3 to very not likely to buy a ps3. Keep it up Sony, soon I will forgive you and take you to the dance just like we used to.
