Tekken 5 and Nancy Drew hit the PS3

7:18 AM on 03.05.2007   |   Niero

Bored gamers that looked desperately on the PS3 shopping channel for some resemblence of entertainment this weekend were treated to two overdue surprises: Tekken 5 rolled in a month late and a trailer for the Nancy Drew movie trailer in HD. Dark Ressurection is only sale for 20 greenbacks and bumps Flow as month's featured game. Nancy Drew's fanbase has long since passed away, so no one will notice that the new storyline is based in Hollywood, which is a far departure from mysterious clocks and stuffy mansions except guys with bookish significant others with a propensity for chick flicks by no fault of their gender.

Meanwhile, Team Destructoid is on standby at GDC-ville anxiously waiting for Phil Harrison's keynote in the wake of some heated rumors. The scoop is that we'll soon learn all about Sony's answer to Xbox Live and Nintendo's Mii system (sans friend code disaster). Update 1.60 is supposed to make us all want to jump on this machine and make sweet man-on-Cell love to it. Can't hardly wait.

So, they're fixing the online component. Good news.

Now, I'm certain they're showing all the new, must-have games coming out for the system as well, right? Right?

...right?

1.6 is long overdue... they should release incrimental updates as soon as they have them damnit... I heard sony people talking about background downloading months ago.
1.6 will be great and all, but it isn't going to mean shit if I don't get some good games that I can't just go play on a 360.

Why don't you build it up a little more then all of you can whine and bitch about it when its not up to YOUR standards.

Still won't buy one. Not enough coming for it that I enjoy that warrants a $600 investment...that, and my wife would divorce me if I bought one at that price. I'll get one when they go cheap and my home theater's finished.

I "heard on the Sony forum" that background downloading was just going to allow us to browse around the xmb and when we play games it would pause the download and resumes it when we stop playing a game.......still is a big improvement and thats just what I "heard"

You almost make sense. People hype the junk outa crap, make rumors and when it was really, just a rumor, people cry and hate.

Sony sure knows how to fail upwards, don't they? They copied ideas from both systems at the last minute prior to launch and it didn’t seem to work, so now they're going to try copying them afterwards and see if that helps at all.

Perhaps "copying" is a harsh term here, since successful innovations that one console introduces typically become standard features on all consoles at some point, but the fact that they are introducing a Mii-like system just seems far too specific to me.

What really angers me though is that nobody seems to care that they blatantly copy stuff. If this were Nintendo or Microsoft copying PS3's features, everybody would be up in arms, but no, when Sony does it it's time to get excited. Despite all the bad press they've been getting lately everybody still plays Sony the favorite, giving them privilege and justifying them when they pull stunts that if performed by other consoles would give them bad press, not generate excitement.
