Activision Blizzard has announced today that the brash, loud-mouthed guitarist Ted Nugent will appear in Guitar Hero World Tour when it ships later this year. Nugent has lent his voice and likeness to the game, and the song "Stranglehold" will appear on the game's soundtrack. Additionally, players will get to face off against Nugent in "an epic guitar duel."

Sigh. Personally, I'm not a fan of the whole guitar duel feature that was introduced in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Facing off against "legendary" guitarists like Slash, Tom Morello, and uh, Satan, was the bane of my existence. Having their likenesses appear in the game? Cool! Bring it on. The duels were just not for me, personally, and I kind of hope they won't be a necessary hurdle in the game's single-player guitar career mode.

I did have a chance to spend quite a few hours with near-final versions of World Tour on multiple platforms (Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360) a few days ago. Unfortunately, my lips are legally sealed by a non-disclosure agreement I signed, so keep your eyes peeled next week for some impressions and fancy info you proably haven't read about anywhere else.

MULTI-PLATINUM ROCK LEGEND TED NUGENT TO BRING KILLER RIFFS AND AN EPIC GUITAR DUEL TO GUITAR HERO® WORLD TOUR

Santa Monica, CA – September 11, 2008 – Multi-platinum guitar icon,  best-selling author and outspoken activist, Ted Nugent will lend his voice and likeness to Activision Publishing, Inc.’s Guitar Hero® World Tour, joining the all-star cast of rock legends to be featured in the game including Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne and Sting.  Aspiring axe shredders will be able to challenge The Nuge in an epic guitar duel, tear up the six string as the music icon’s in-game character or jam alongside the Motor City Madman as he rocks his 1975 smash hit “Stranglehold.”  Recognized as the world's leading guitar showman, Nugent's no-holds-barred career spans five decades of multi-platinum sales exceeding 35 million albums.

When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour.  The latest installment in the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero’s signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands,” which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever.  The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ‘n’ roll anthems.  Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.

I hated the Boss Battles as well, TDWDTG is the only thing standing between me and 100% completion in GHIII.

But still, STRANGLEHOLD! FUCK YEEEEESSSSSSS! xD

I don't really care about Nuge's music, but man some people seem to hate on him. I wonder if it's because he's not as "progressive" as other musicians.

Oh, and I fucking hate boss battles.

Wait, did anyone actually ENJOY the boss battles in GH3? I've never heard a single good thing about them, yet here they are, back in GHWT. Oy.

I'm playing GH3 for the first time, today. I honestly don't mind the boss battles. They break up the gameplay and there's only three of them. *shrug* The duel with the devil was enjoyably epic though, in my opinion. I can take them or leave them, though.

Maybe they changed them around so it's like play against them and is more entertaining, but in all likelihood they'll be dependent on you throwing crap at the opponent until it ends and will totally suck ass like in GH3.
