Ever since Techland's Dying Light was announced, it's drawn comparisons to Dead Island -- the studio's previous title. It's easy to see how many would come to that quick conclusion with it being an open-world zombie game and all. But, that's not the way Techland looks at it, as the developer wanted to depart from Dead Island in the first place.

Speaking with Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala at E3, he commented that the team doesn't view Dying Light as a zombie game, but rather as a game about movement. It knew that it didn't want to make Dead Island 2 because that would have to be a vastly different game.

Smektala remarked that he's not surprised that Dead Island 2's in production. After all, it's one of Deep Silver's bigger properties. However, given the direction Techland wanted to go in with (what eventually came to be) Dying Light, the studio knew that it wasn't the right fit to develop the next Dead Island game.

Dying Light has a sweet slide move

So I still need to actually play Vanquish in full, but that rocket knee slide? Good stuff. Dying Light's slide is not so cool, but with enough forward momentum, you could get a decent slide going.  I am only still ...more

Dying Light's gamescom trailer is all about hunting and hiding

As I wrote about at E3, there's a lot that you can do in Techland's Dying Light. First and foremost, you can run, jump, and grapple your way across terrain at a breakneck speed. You can take a break from traversal and use yo...more

Dying Light wants to make a murderer out of you

Everything that we've seen of Dying Light thus far has looked neat, but kind of devoid of personality. It's just seemed like another zombie game with attractive running mechanics. This trailer bucks that trend and adds a bit of charisma. It also adds blood. Lots and lots of blood -- especially after the sun goes down.more

When it gets dark, Dying Light will freak you out

The follow-up to Sleeping Dogs is a 'PC online game'
