Techland's priority is fixing Dead Island first, then DLC photo

With a rough launch and issues still needing to be addressed on multiple platforms, it might be a while before we get to play add-on content for Dead Island.

"Right now the Dead Island development team's priority is working on fixes and updates across all platforms so that we can take care of all of the fans who have been so supportive of our game," a spokesperson for Deep Silver told Kotaku. "There is some awesome DLC content planned for Dead Island, but first we have to put all our focus on the base game experience."

No arguments here, and based on past complaints when the opposite path is taken by a studio, I assume you guys are okay with getting a working game before the extras come as well.

NO! A loud vocal minority of us must be mad no matter what the news is! ARRGH why would they do this, so terrible!

In all seriousness, major kudos to them for taking care of their customers, they may have just gained one...

Waiting on this myself as well. Looking forward to it, though.

As I said on Twitter earlier - I can't wait for Dead Island 1.0 - the fixed version - in a few months on sale for $30.

I actually played through the whole game and never ran into any bugs or glitches...except for floaters and rams falling through the floor and dying, but that was just hilarious.

Best multiplayer experience I have had for 2011! (thus far)

This game made me push Deus Ex aside but I am glad to hear this! I was only hit with the no save bug once and lost 2hrs of game play but the way I see it is I get to spend and extra 2hrs with this game, lol.

instead of fixing bugs first then sell dlc, why not sell dlc that comes with bug fixes upon purchase?

I'm about 60% in and I have yet to find any really game-breaking glitches, idk I guess I'm just the kind of person who is fine playing an "above average" game. I'm loving the co-op :)

people call the dev copy a "serious" problem, but i didnt find it too serious. what i do find serious is not being able to play the game from the time you launch it. the "black screen" glitch has yet to be fixed which actually prevents you from playing the game entirely, straight out of the box.

All very well and good, but the massive amount of bugs shouldn't really have been there in the first place. Seems like they rushed it out so as not to compete with bigger name titles with the intent of fixing it post release.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool that they ARE prioritising fixes. But it's a double edged sword - it shouldn't have been SO glitchy in the first place.

Tip of the hat for a game company who values a working product before nickel and diming with DLC.

Wag of the finger for a company releasing a product after a 5 1/2 year production cycle and still having silly bugs like instant zombie teleport about face.

I say it's to late to fix, the draw of this game is multiplayer. That draw is dead because the game is rampant with cheating (due to bugs) so at this point it's already dead.

Do you really want to play with a bunch of people who have duped up infinite money and high level gear? Hell might as well go play Diablo 2.

This game is great and I bought it in order to support the devs so its nice to see them supporting the supporters.

I have been playing all offline with analog controls and its a fuckin blast! Brutally difficult, but a fuckin blast.

I can't wait til the online and save issues get worked out on the PS3. Thank you Techland.

Seriously, I cannot give them enough credit for this awesome awesome game. Even the majority of the bad bugs aren't really much worse than the average. (Aside from the day one fiasco on PC, of course.)

I've put in nearly 80 hours now on PC. Awesome singleplayer, awesome multiplayer.

Yeah I haven't had much in the way of bugs. I'd have like a few improvements to the UI but it's no worse than borderlands.

at least they got the priorities right.
I could even say better to release a buggy game and put your team to fix it right than to delay the game as a user this way people can play the game erlier and will even more bug free game than most after a while.

I just moved into a new apartment and don't have my internet set up yet and I've been playing this game on my PS3 without any of the "day-one patches" installed. (Previous Destructoid article - http://tinyurl.com/dead-island-first-day-patches) I haven't noticed any problems at all. I do want to do multiplayer with this game! Crap is getting too scary to play alone!

@Rusty James: The Day-One patch(singular) was for PC only, since, on PC you don't have to deal with the console manufacturer's convoluted approval policies.

This story is actually a Captain Obvious moment, but, as someone who's been screwed too many times lately, it's nice to hear once in a while.

@rusty

No patch for PS3 yet and don't worry cause anytime I play while PSN is connected it doesn't save any of my game so I always disable the connection before I play anyway. Even still, the autosave is pretty broken but a lot better when offline. To be safe I don't trust any autosave that doesn't occur after completing a mission or when taking one, those seem to be the only ones that work. Oh also, when you reload a save or previous checkpoint it seems to teleport me to me tracked destination.

Annnnnnd...... This game fucking rules.

I mean it seems to only autosave on PS3 when completing or taking a mission.

Also, I gotta say that the analog controls and single player combo make this game scary as all hell. Not to mention those fucking infected....I hate those things getinthefuckingtruckandDRIIIIIVVEEE!!

Strangely, based on the comments, one could reach the conclusion that the people who HAVEN'T played the game are the ones most affected by all of these game ruining bugs.

@ dtomek. This.
I've probably put 40 hours into this and I've run into two bugs. Two. Seriously people, New Vegas this is not. Also a developer focusing on fixing their game BEFORE DLC?!

*Faints*

I’m a bit surprised at people giving them a pat on the back for working on a patch, shouldn’t they deserve a kick up the arse for realising a buggy game in the first place?

I gotta agree that those complaining are in the minority while those, like myself, LOVE the game despite it being less than perfect. I laud them for at least trying their best to get things fixed that slipped thru.

The lesson seems to be to wait a couple of months before games are actually playable.

With the way some recent releases have gone, they're gonna have to pack a whole ton of bonus features with preorders for me to care about buying a game day one.

Love the game, but I was surprised at how mediocre the games visuals were at some points as well as the voice acting and cutscenes. Other than that the game is on point and I've put in a good 10 or 15 hours so far playing alone.
