Yeah yeah, we're a little late here, shut up. Anyway, GamesRader got their hands on the teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe that Nick Chester saw earlier in the week. We see Sub-Zero and Batman battling it out on the ground and while falling through the air.

I don't know about you, but I'm still in disbelief that this is actually coming out. On one hand, I like the fact that the Unreal Engine 3 is be utilized here. But on the other hand, can this really be called Mortal Kombat if there are no fatalities? I mean, I understand why they took the fatalities out. I'm sure DC wouldn't appreciate Scorpion ripping off the head off of Batman. Still though, that's always been the biggest highlights of the MK series.

I'm sure a lot of you have already bitched and moaned about this but I still want to hear what you have to say about all this. Have at it in the comments.

me buying the game hinges on one question:

Which Green Lantern they're going to use

Fuck John Stewart, fuck him straight to hell

Carefully constructed diversity my glorious ass, he was the worst gl ever.

After they went 3d...
I never bought another MK since.

Bring back the "realistic" 2d sprites, CEREALS!

I bet they just use one Green Lantern, and make his alternate costumes each of the different Green Lanterns. I'm pretty sure I remember them doing that in some other DC game.

The funniest thing about no fatalities is that the DCU is the place where they were killing/maiming characters left, right, and center there for a while.

Tubatic hit the nail on the head for me. 2Xmeh = do not want

This is like bad fanfiction. Seriously Star Trek vs. Killer Instinct makes about as much sense.

If they really wanted to rip off Marvel vs. Capcom they shoulda done DC vs. Midway.

I really would be okay if somebody did a JLA-type game with not just cel-shaded graphics, how's about Alex Ross-styled paint shading! Do something like Justice or Kingdom Come. I can't think of any terrific next gen games based on comic books.
This just looks like a cleaner version of the last MK they put out. I have to hear about the storyline, too...I guess the tournament ripped a hole in a whole new dimension. Again. Tired of it! I'll rent it.

@ RAB: Midway really only built the KI arcade hardware, it was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo.

Best idea ever, if the somehow decide to allow fatalities. There are few things in life better than DC comics and Mortal Kombat. Superman, here I come...I can't wait!

Here's the site--> Linky

If you click on Sub Zeros eye, you get the 'Shhh' page, basically 16 boxes with ?s in them. I'm assuming that as time goes on they'll be showing the playable characters 1 by 1.

Other than that, this game will have to have immaculate controls, response and about 12 new features to fighting games that'll make me squirt and poop at the same time. The decision to abstain from fatalities to include DC characters is a baffling fucking mystery.

And why DC? I'm not really into comics so much anymore but when I was Image, Dark Horse, shit even Marvel were better than DC.

This is a shitstorm of confusion.

Copy/pasting from the other thread because I missed this thread at first and nobody'll probably bother reading the earlier thread now:

I'll say it again. Just... wow. Exactly when did gamers, generally speaking, get to be this fucking jaded? I mean, I know it's kinda been that way for a while now to an extent, but when and why exactly did it become so? It's not like you guys are going to be fucking strapped to a chair and forced to play this or anything, if and when it ever comes out. I, for one, hope this ends up rocking everyones' faces off, fatalities or not, and I refuse to write it off as fail until it is actually shown to be fail. I mean, I can see why people would be hesitant to get all gung ho about this and all, hell I'm going to reserve judgment until I see some gameplay and such myself, but I seriously don't get all these declarations of "OMG epic fail!!11!`!12!!" when it's hardly even out of the fucking gate though. Seriously, at the very least the concept of this is not any more or less retarded than Marvel vs Capcom, and those turned out okay, so why is this getting the bum's rush right off the bat?

And for all of those saying that it's only the fatalities that make MK what it is: Bullshit. Anecdotal evidence: My high school had an UMK3 machine in the cafeteria back in the day, and because the administration were pussies they had the blood and fatalities turned off (which was retarded because the year before that they had a MK2 machine in there with everything enabled, but I digress). Yet, despite this, the UMK3 machine was still always packed, while the other contemporary games there were mostly vacant. The only games that came close to the number of players were NBA Jam TE, Raiden II, and D&D Tower of Doom. Yes, it would have been better if they'd enabled the blood and fatalities, obviously, but many many people still played it regardless, despite the fact that there were other, equally (perhaps even more) viable choices to be had. Honestly, I preferred ToD myself, but I still played more than my fair share of gimped out UMK3 as well.

Also, the thought of Meat or Mokap kicking Superman's or Batman's ass is absolutely ludicrously hilarious to me, as much as would be, say, Aquaman vs Sub-Zero or something. If the game allows for these scenarios, I will be content. Unless the game sucks balls, that is, in which case I won't give a shit.

(And here's my second post from immediately after that)

FWIW though, I'm still just waiting for something like this to become an actual official game and not just a fan-made flash thing.

@Im OK,

Yeah you are right about ppl claiming the baby's dead before is even born but hey, this game has a lot to prove... even more now that the concept is stupid and the selling point is unavailable.

This needs to be better than "Marvel vs Capcom" for a lot of reasons but its very very hard to be better.

I hope is good since I love fighting games but my money is going to Soul Calibur 4 and SF4

I think it's probably getting dogged because it's a blatant attempt to ride the recent reboots of the Batman and Superman movie franchises, as well as the "coming soon" Dark Knight flick. It seems like Midway figures they can just slap Batman on the cover and call it a great new game. Basically, it smells the same to me as a mildly popular flavor-of-the-month mid-90s pop band "reuniting" for some 15 year old's birthday party.

I can't imagine that anyone in the mortal kombat universe could possibly do a ingle thing to superman- I mean seriously, if you want to be accurate to his powers unless they have kryptonite weapons superman could pretty much stand there and do nothing and take no damage and finish them in 1 punch......

I'll say what I said in the other news item, the synergy between the two just doesn't make sense. One is heavily about martial arts and the other is heavily about super powers (excluding Batman). I mean, honestly, we don't typically expect Superman in this game, do we?

If it was open to Marvel and DC, that would be better. Then we could have Batman, Daredevil, Punisher, Elektra and other more appropriate characters. But, then again, Stryker is the MK version of the punisher and Mileena is the MK version of Elektra.

Anyway, /ramble_off
