Yeah yeah, we're a little late here, shut up. Anyway, GamesRader got their hands on the teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe that Nick Chester saw earlier in the week. We see Sub-Zero and Batman battling it out on the ground and while falling through the air.

I don't know about you, but I'm still in disbelief that this is actually coming out. On one hand, I like the fact that the Unreal Engine 3 is be utilized here. But on the other hand, can this really be called Mortal Kombat if there are no fatalities? I mean, I understand why they took the fatalities out. I'm sure DC wouldn't appreciate Scorpion ripping off the head off of Batman. Still though, that's always been the biggest highlights of the MK series.

I'm sure a lot of you have already bitched and moaned about this but I still want to hear what you have to say about all this. Have at it in the comments.

Could totally just be me but I think it needs some work. However the idea is very interesting, but then again a good Mortal Combat game is interesting in and of itself. Let me emphasize GOOD cause I haven't see one in a long ass while.

I'll say it again...

Mortal Kombat - Fatalities = Fuck That Shit

Not the most civilized way to put it, but c'mon, this is fuckign retarded. I've lost so much respect for Midway it's ridiculous. I'll rent this, so I can play it for 5 minutes and return it hte next day.

It looks a little more fluid than MK usually is, but the removal of fatalities and over the top blood really takes away from the point of having MK as one of the IPs.

I never cared that much for the DC universe, and Mortal Kombat was secondary to Street FIghter for me. This just feel like a combination of two second place IPs for me.

MK v. DC?
WTF?
Mortal Kombat with no fatalities is like going to a masseuse parlor and not getting the happy ending. What is the point? I think they need to do DC v. Marvel, DC v. Darkhorse. DC v. The Police Academy! MK v. DC, not something I plan on buying. That is, unless they have revolutionized fighting games in such a way that the premise is irrelevant.

This is the dumbest crossover I've ever seen. For me, this is total fail. Mostly because I'm just not interested in any DC characters besides Batman.

This is like having a Super Mario Brothers without Mario, Luigi and Bowser.

Seriously MK with no fatalities is fucking moronic. It would have been great if DC Comics weren't such panzies and would approve of the blood and fatalities being the game.

Fucking stupid

If they were going to do a cross over like this then why not do it with people would wouldn't have a problem with blood and gore? What about Todd Mcfarlane? I'm sure he wouldn't have minded. Dark Horse would have been good too. There might have been a slim chance we could have gotten Ash from Evil Dead in the game since Dark Horse did Army of Darkness comics. I don't like the idea of a comic crossover, but at the very least they could have chosen something that actually fit MK's style better. I mean the best we might possibly get out of this is Joker and Doomsday, but that's about it.

turns out that the original game was supposed to be Mortal Kombat vs. The 1992 Washington Redskins, but someone figured out that the premise didn't make any sense, so they had to go with plan b.

I could care less about the presence or absence of fatalities and blood, even with them, the game still does not compute...

ITS MAHVEL BA--.. phone rings

(wait..what? Midway and who? You're kidding right? You're not kidding? Wow that sounds.. that sounds fucking terrible. You sure its-- it is? Any chance it's just a late april-- No? Theres a trailer?.... what the fuck is a green lantern?)

This is very strange. Of all the crossovers that could have happened, this seems like the least enticing. I'm usually always one to give Mortal Kombat a chance but this is just disgraceful.

A sick crossover could potentially come out of Soul Calibur and Samurai Showdown if it ever were to happen. Especially since that new SS is coming out in 3D.

Some obvious other ones could be DOA vs Virtua Fighter, or possibly crossing Tekken with either of those two..

I had always kinda hoped Capcom would do a crossover with MK/Midway. Capcom could put in guys like Dante and the dude from Dead Rising.. And Midway would obviously have the MK guys and the Killer Instinct guys and.. uhh... Ms Pacman? Maybe the guys from RAMPAGE?

I dont know man.. I'll probably be giving this one a rent.. but its gonna hurt.

Also @ bam2003
if you think that every fighting game has a finisher except streetfighter then you haven't been playing enough videogames. go to your room and dont come out untill you beat contra on hard.

The idea is interesting, but essentially selling out Mortal Kombat's focal point just for a cash-in crossover is pretty bad form. It's essentially like Nintendo releasing a Mario game without Mario in it so they could replace him with Spiderman or something.

Excessive gore is the only think that makes Mortal Kombat interesting. Heaven knows the majority of gamers aren't in it for the insane and convoluted story.

OK, so I'm not COMPLETELY negative, the folowing characters are required for me to have fun in this game:

Batman, Azrael, Lobo, the various batgirls, Doomsday, Beast Boy could be interesting, Bizarro, Flash, Green Lantern, Red Hood, Nightwing, Hush, Aquaman (for the infinite lulz), Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Black Adam, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Brainiac, General Zod, Plastic Man (Dhalsim style lol), Steel, Cyborg Superman, The Eradicator, is Superman has to be in it then let him wear the black/silver outfit when he returned from his 'death', Wonder Twins (HAHAHA), If Wonderwoman has to be in it let her wear the amazon garm so the wind can blow her skirt up, Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor (in his big ass robot suit thing), Darkseid, Cheetah (cuz she's sexAy), Poison Ivy, Gorilla Grod would be interesting, Panthro (There was a Thundercats DC comic), Mumm-Ra, Doc Savage, Black Manta (Ugliest DC character ever), Doctor Fate, and well, that would do...

Oh, and the cover must be done by Alex Ross. THEN, I might enjoy the game...

ive always felt that DC comics, other than batman, dont have cool characters. there are a few i like and read but none than capture the imagination of marvels roster.

capcom vs marvel worked because it didnt butcher the street fighter origins, (i think there were a few marvel + xmen arcade fighters made by capcom too), and it blended well.

but what the hell are they thinking here? mk hasnt been good or relevent for maybe a decade, and has their ever been a good game based on DC comic properties?

i feel sorry for DC fans as they have had nothing as good as marvel ultimate alliance or spiderman 2. this feels like a cash in with no fatalities.

both midway and DC have fucked up here. i personally smell another Marvel: rise of the imperfects (or whatever it was called), coming on.

What Samit said. They should have just gone with an all DC cast instead of adding MK characters for no apparent reason other than appealing to the 12-year-olds that think pitting Batman versus Sub-Zero is THE MOST RAD IDEA EVER OMG PUT IN MASTER CHIEF TOO!!1!

I guess it has to be said that there have been no fatalities worth watching since MK 2. That does not, however, excuse what is happening here. The series should have just ended, really. Maybe Midway could make us a good DC fighting game unrelated to MK? I doubt that, though, cause it seems good fighting games are not really Midway's forte. Oh man, this is scrambling me.
stafax's Avatar

The funny part is, more people like Marvel characters and Capcom makes much better fighting games. This just says "bad knock-off" all over it. Hardly any one cares about DC characters other then Batman.
This is just doomed to fail. MK 1-3 were ok games. They weren't bad, weren't great, only reason why they were popular was because of the blood and fatalities. Now everyone has grown out of the fact that "wow this is such a bloody game" and the gameplay has been going downhill in these later MK games, which isn't helping the franchise any.
So now the franchise has lost the two things that even entertain people, the blood and fatalities, and have added a horrible cross over that no one cares about. This is doomed to fail. I will not play this game and hope Ed Boon finally realizes that MK is dead.

a.) MK has never really been all that good anyway

and

b.) this game will suffer because a lot of DC characters (cough, Superman, cough) were TERRIBLY conceived in a very very different era. I mean seriously, what the fuck is Scorpion supposed to do against Superman. I know they'll just nerf Superman to a reasonable game level but then anyone playing him will just feel like 'why won't Superman be Superman.' Same goes for Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc.

A Mortal Kombat game without fatalities, is like Mortal Kombat without the K... it just isn't right.

On the other hand, what are the odds of this game being conceived!!! I mean, not in my wildest dreams would I think of Sub-Zero duking it out with Batman... God, just wet my pants.

So, the real question is: do you think the tradeoff between fatalities and the DCU is right? Being a HUGE comic geek myself, I am quite excited about this. Besides, didn't the story ended with MK Armaggedon? If they mesh the story properly, we could see the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy 2: Revenge of Altair on the X-Box 360...

I'm one of those people who loves seeing where the ridiculous retconned bullshit storyline is going to take its next crazy turn, so as much as this game is going to suck, I'm certainly going to pull up a chair, grab some popcorn, and watch the train wreck. How the writers are getting from Apocalypse to this game is going to be a testament to bad video game writing.

That sucks that there isn't going to be any fatalities. They could have come up with some good ones for the DC characters.

I don't think that a MK/DC crossover is any more ridiculous than a Capcom/Marvel crossover. That doesn't mean that it'll be as good a game, but I'll at least wait until it comes out before I judge it.

What's with all the crossover fighting games this year? First Brawl, then Soul Calibur 4, and now this. I'm waiting for Namco to announce that Tekken 6 is going to be Tekken Vs. Disney. Then we can finally have that Yoshimitsu Vs. The Little Mermaid dream match that everyone has always talked about.
