It's been a while since I've seen an honest to goodness fighting game rivalry. There was the faux trash talk between the Tekken 6 and Street Fighter IV devs from late last year, but that was all just to promote Street Fighter X Tekken. I don't think I've seen fighting game devs really talk smack about each other's game since the Eternal Champions/Mortal Kombat II/Street Fighter II days.
Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but I'm happy to see the genuine return of fighting game developers dogging each others games. It's far from bloodthirsty, but to hear Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi say...
"(Street Fighter is) originally and now a 2D fighting game. But, for us, Dead or Alive is a 3D fighting game - so [Capcom has] a limitation with Street Fighter. As a 3D fighting game we have a lot of possibility, and it is natural to convey it to 3DS... (Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition) has a figurine battle. We are in the fighting game genre, and they're not fighting!"
... still has me smiling. I wonder if he thinks that statements like that will actually convince some people to buy Dead or Alive Dimensions over Super Street Fighter IV 3D?
Are you convinced?
Team Ninja has no issue with 3DS battery life, trash-talks Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition [GoNintendo]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

None of that even makes any sense.
SFIV 3DS looks awesome.
and it's DoA3 again...
Who wants flapjacks?
Thanks.
2) I kinda have the same thinking for DOA being on it aswell. But I won't be surprised if Samus is announced as a fighter on that game. Thanks Other M, I guess.
I guess the next thing they'll say is that Dead or Alive Paradise is better than having sex with an actual girl on the beach because you can move the camera to angles you can't normally see.
Dear Team Ninja, make a decent game and then you can talk. Otherwise, STFU.
Heh, okay, whatever helps him sleep at night.
There's only one reason anyone would choose DOA over SF, but with characters like Cammy, Chun Li, Sakura and Juri (and Elena and R.Mika, if they'd ever freaking bring them back!)- yeah, there really is no reason to choose DOA over SF anymore.
Hiyooooo!
All fault should rest squarely on the shoulders of Sakamato.
He has been slowly but surely ruin the Metroid and fan perceptions of her since the late 90's.
But fuck those 2 anyway, Super Smash Bros Melee onws all the motherfuckers
maybe we wouldn't have to shit all over other M if it didn't suck to begin with. dude you can like any game you want, but don't tell us on what to hate and what not to hate.
The mechanics are still a 2d world -_-
And as far as fighting games go, SF4 is basically what's hot right now in the fighting game community. Overseas, it's a bit lower on the ladder, but no where is DOA the featured series.
Capcom doesn't even have to reply to this random ass comment.
Also, I think it is fair that on the 3DS platform, a 3D fighting game like DOA is in a better position to really make use of the hardware than a 2D fighting game like SF is. Again, I don't really see how anyone could debate this. It's pretty clear that a 3D game is going to show off and make sue of 3D hardware better than a 2D one will.
That's actually all I've gotten from that quote there. I don't see anyone outright sayign that 3D fighting games are better than 2D ones, just that in the context of the 3DS, 3D fighters do... make more sense, I suppose would be the way to put it.
As far as DOA vs SF goes, as a depressingly small number of people on here have already pointed out, it's a pointless argument. It's like comparing Counter-Strike to Gears Of War or Dead Space to Koudelka. If you play DOA with a SF mindset then it's going to be shit. If you play SF with a DOA mindset then it's going to be shit. You can not get more dissimilar than Street Fighter and Dead Or Alive. One, regardless of graphical style, is the purest of 2D fighters. The other has, since the very beginning, embraced the third dimension and made it a key component of the game mechanics. Just because two games both feature 1-on-1 battles where two ludicrous characters punch each other in the balls does not mean that they are comparable.
There's no need to really defend SF, we all know where that series stands. As far as DOA is concerned, it's been played in pro fighting game tournaments in the EU, Korea and Japan for years and it started being used in Evo five years ago, so yes, people do actually care about DOA and it has every right to be taken seriously.
People who only like 2D fighting games and don't like 3D ones should not bother with DOA. People who only like 3D fighting games and not 2D fighting games should not bother with Street Fighter. People who like neither shouldn't play either. People who like both should play both. There's really no reason to have to compare them or pit one against the other. Neither is inferior to the other. They're just different systems, different types of game.
i don't think anyone here is defending one game or the other. if anyone is defending anything, it's lamertag defending other M. i think everyone here though, is making fun of the comment listed. like how i said "this, coming from the game that feature bouncing tits". the dude from team ninja made the absurd comment based on one little function that SFIV has.
what gets me all riled up though, is how they think this 3rd Dimension makes the fighting genre better. apparently they've never played KoF, BlazBlue, or even DarkStalkers. WHAT MAKES THIS EVEN WORSE are people commenting on how since the game is a "2d fighter", it shouldn't be on the 3DS. the characters and the game still has a 3D aesthetic to it.
team ninja needs to suck a big fat dick. so does lamertag. i'm still mad at him for trying to tell me to NOT hate on other M. that game fucking blew and you all know it.
No, it's Team Ninja so I'm not convinced.
