It's no secret that Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat has been critical of Microsoft after its experience getting the game on Xbox Live Arcade. Speaking to Eurogamer, designer Edmund McMillen said that "For a while I really thought Microsoft would change and was changing after the bad experiences were made public about working with them that weren't just us. But from what I've heard recently they have not at all changed."
"The sad truth of it is they do not need to change," explained programmer Tommy Refenes. "Because Xbox Arcade is such a small portion of them overall it does not matter. And they will still attract developers no matter what."
McMillen believes that "The person who controls the money doesn't really need to strategize about anything. They just throw more money around. You look at Kinect and that was the most ham-fisted garbage device in the world, but they got it moving because they invested s***loads of money in it and advertised. In the end you make stupid decisions and don't rely on any intellect at all. That's kind of the way it works with these consoles."
The wide-ranging interview also covers Team Meat's new game, Mew-Genics, offering a description that finally has me visualizing what the game will actually be about, as well as thoughts on the future of consoles and gamepads, and what it will take for the duo to develop for Wii U.
