Team Fortress 2 War Report: The Direct Hit photo

Yesterday, we got a quick look at the Demoman's wicked new melee arsenal. Today, Valve is busy talking up the first "War!" update weapon for the Soldier. It's a new rocket launcher called the Direct Hit, intended for those who don't readily depend on a large blast radius for their kills.

The Direct Hit is 80% faster and 25% more damaging than the regular ol' rocket launcher, although this comes at a price: the blast radius has been reduced by a whopping 70%.

The second new weapon will be revealed tomorrow, and if trends continue in terms of kill counts, the Soldier may just get another weapon on top of that. Step it up, Demomen!

Other exciting news includes a new comic, more Team Fortress 2 merchandise, and a free weekend just in time for the update. Begin pre-loading now if you want to take part!

Fuck Valve and their lack of a 360 update! Hell, I'll even settle for the update the PC players got a year ago! I just want something!

Yes, blame Valve for something they have little control over! The Xbox doesn't have enough juice to run all of the new updates, it didn't even have enough juice back in April

If you want to play Valve games, buy a gorram PC.

thinking of buying it, how much longer do people think TF2 is going to be really active for? has it the population dropped a bit since L4D2?

@cap123 - at the very least, there's still the Engineer update to look forward to. I don't see them ceasing to support TF2 anytime soon.

People still play the original Counter-Strike. TF2's gonna be around for a while. Go for it, it's worth your money! :)

TF2 is a super active multiplayer game. It has in fact being more active than ever since they began to announce the updates the past week.

I'm going to quote a friend when I say this, but I hope there is an ironic twist in which their weapons update is the power of friendship.

....oh who am I kidding. TEAM DEMO.

On the server I play on, interest died down for a bit when everyone was playing L4D2. The update made them come back in droves, lol.

Chill out, I was kidding. I know they've been working on it forever, I'm just bitter that I have to play the 360 version since my PC died.

That's odd, all the servers I tend to visit are fuller than ever! I barely have the chance to play on them so I usually try to catch with a friend now.

I'm thinking Valve is saving the 360 updates for a re-release of the game. Perhaps a downloadable version, or badass retail copy.

C'mon Demos, you're catching up! I'm guessing it's going to be VERY close within the next few days. Now that all the noobs are getting bored and going back to their normal classes, only the skilled Demos and Soldier will be left fighting. Then we'll really see whose the best.

You might be right. Valve wanted the DLC to be free, but Microsoft wanted it to be charged (think Halo DLC). So the DLC got cock-blocked. Valve might wait for all the DLCs to be released, then charge $10 on XBL to get around Microsoft's greedy hands.

I feel sorry for you XBox 360 and PS3 users. You are really missing out on the fun.

The XBOX department can suck a big fat one, why is it required to make the stuff chargeable? Is not their own damn business.

Microsoft is the gatekeeper for basically everything involving their console. They can do anything they want with the DLC on their platform. That's one reason I like PC, there are no gatekeepers to say what people and developers can and cannot do.
