Team Fortress 2 War Report: The Demoman update photo

Continuing its slow and relaxed unveiling of the Team Fortress 2 War update, Valve is finally giving away the really juicy stuff. Two of the Demoman's unlocks have shown themselves -- a haunted sword and a shield designed with charging in mind -- much to our delight.

Since it is indeed haunted, the Eyelander has a sort of vampire effect going for it. It lowers your maximum health from the get-go, while each successful decapitation pleases the spirit, resulting in a boost in max health and speed.

Simply equipping the Chargin' Targe nets you tempting defensive bonuses, and the shield can also be used to launch yourself forward for devastating results. Of course, this comes at a price -- this item replaces the sticky bomb launcher, sadly.

There's even a great new comic about the Demoman and his dear old mum. Also: the Demos are still behind the Soldiers in kills; this is unacceptable! Oh, and item creation through crafting has been revealed on top of more saucy Saxton Hale action. You probably already knew about that last part, though.

Unless of course this is your only source for gaming news, in which case, we are obligated to love you. And mean it, too.

His name is Devin Degroot. My mind is blown.
New weapons and crafting system are awesome too.

This is probably the only class in which the name has been revealed. Also I was in other forum where we had the theory of the sword as it was one of the objects Poopy was going to use in space. I rejected it because it sounded way to crazy, but its so crazy it was real after all!

So... AWESOME! Also, fuck the Steamforums, first the drama they made for the one day delay of the L4D2 demo, then hating this? What kind of sick fuck hates THIS piece of awesome?

They'll complain about anything.

The main complaint is: "How does this fit the Demoman's role?"

For one, his Defense title now comes into play because his biggest weakness, close combat is being covered with the shield as well. Does it even matter how it does?

I love Valve's philosophy of having an entirely new class within a class. I wanna see the weapons in action and I wonder if it'll have a cooldown like the Charger in L4D2.

I don't even know how a person couldn't like this.

People think it's gonna be a Melee fest.

-He's resistant to FIRE and EXPLOSIONS by 50% and 65%

-Less health If he didn't kill anyone

This is borderline Pyro territory because he has to get close to you first. And if anything, the Charge N Targe would be a straight charge and not a maneuverable one. But again, people will complain before even seeing it.

I'm pretty sure the blade was inspired by Skurai from Ragnarok.

If this means less sticky bombs, is this a good thing for other classes?

@TheStripe: As I understand it, airblast is directly related to explosives, which the targe reduces. So you're stuck with the axtinguisher, essentially.

I look forward to many awesome axe on sword duels to come.

Awesumz. Also, going back to what VGFreak1225 said, the Heavy's name has also been revealed as Drew Wolf in an update that very much supports an upcoming "Meet the Medic" vid.

Yeah, I remember when my friends and I saw it and had a good laugh at the hilarious pun ('There can only be one!...eyeball' for those who honestly didn't get it). Maybe it's because I've always been more of a sword nut then a gun nut, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how this is implemented in the game. Using both the shield and sword leaves you with only the pipe bomb launcher as a ranged weapon which makes me wonder how the shield will accomodate. I mean, how far of a charge can they give the shield before it becomes too ridiculous?

Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing many many epic sword clahes.

This is my primary source for gaming news. It was my only source up until just a couple of months ago, when I realized that the guys at GiantBomb do some good work.
