Team 17 likes Microsoft better than Sony photo

Team 17 made quite a few people happy when it announced that Alien Breed Evolution was bringing grub-splattering fun to a new generation of gamers. However, at least one side of the console wars will be happier than the other, with this new Alien Breed coming to Xbox Live Arcade before it hits the PSN. Team 17 explains why -- they're simply better friends with Microsoft.

"I think XBLA still leads PS3 in terms of user base and probably the amount of people buying the thing," explains Team 17's Martyn Brown. "Plus we have a relationship with Microsoft that’s pretty close -- a first party publishing relationship.

"They showed a lot of faith in us early doors and that’s kind of kept going really. I think they’ve got the same kind of games on there: it’s the same kind of audience really. I’m not suggesting the PS3 is any less than that, but we just feel that’s the market for the game. It will come to PS3 and it will come to PC as well, but initially it’ll be Live Arcade."

Can't fault the guys for sticking up for their friends. Either way, it really doesn't matter to me. XBLA or PSN, I'm downloading this one as soon as I can, no questions asked.

Well, as long as it shows up on the PSN eventually, I guess. Not like friggin' OutRun.

What's this? Is Sony not showing enough loving? Although it does make sense why they'd would release it on Xbox Live Arcade, more players equal more money.

Must be why they dropped a "new" worms on PSN right before a "newer" worms on XBLA.

Seems childish. Oh well I bought 'um both.

I don't understand why they hold it back at all. Surely they would get more money by releasing it at the same time and it makes everyone happy.

I just think they are alienating a whole audience here. I was actually wanting to work for these people as well :/

I just don't think a company should be biased towards one company.

The only reason these developers enjoy creating games on the xbox 360 is its easier they dont have to relearn how to program. Its been said millions of times. And so what if theres more user base on the 360 we the PS3 owners are the rich ones we can afford the PS3 for gamers sakes.

As I recall, nobody in the United States has ever really cared/known about Alien Breed. It's one of those Amiga/British things.

Its not a loyalty decision to release it later on PS3, its a financial one. Its a timed exclusive.

If they're a 1st party publisher for MS, then the game even coming to PSN ever is a bonus. 1st parties rarely cross company lines.

"I just don't think a company should be biased towards one company."

I wouldn't call it bias. It's a business decision. Just like a couple 3rd party published only produce PS3/P games due to some business agreement. Team 17 has some sort of relationship with MS.

Fortunately it'll makes it's way to PSn down the line unlike games like inFamous& ratchet which will never appear on xbox.

Eh, on seconmd thought maybe they are biased. But people tend to apreciate which side their bread is buttered on.

Microsoft's been very good to T17 over the past couple of years. They seem to have a joint advertising thing, where Worms gets plastered over points card boxes and MS's literature for XBLA.
I'm sure MS will be pushing Alien Breed just the same when it hits, which, considering the franchise's obscurity for those who never owned an Amiga, is possibly going to be quite crucial in getting the game to sell and re-establishing the IP.

It never bothers me when "the other" console gets a game first. When it finally does come to PSN or the PS3, it's usually a patched version and we don't have to deal with many of the initial problems.

I don't know why anyone gets worked up about limited time exclusives.

@zippydude: while I agree with you..I also find that view ironic. Seeing as 90% of fanboyism comes from when companies like Square-enix "betray so and so company"
