Worms enjoyed an exclusive period of time on Xbox Live Arcade before gracing other digital platforms with its presence, and Team 17's other big revival, Alien Breed: Evolution, appears to be doing the same thing. Of course, with third party exclusivity comes emotional fanboys making wild accusations of treachery and conspiracies, which Team 17 has put down quite emphatically.
"Obviously we'd like everything on every platform day one," explains studio boss Martyn Brown. "The LIVE Arcade thing … we get accused of being bribed or we've took Microsoft's money, and it's all bollocks.
"The reason is that we've got a long relationship with Microsoft's first party unit. We get on great with them. In exchange for exclusivity we get a lot more promotion. We've got a closer deal with them. That's just how it is. It's unfortunate. That's just how we work. I appreciate PS3 owners getting pissed off because it's not on their platform immediately, but that's up to Sony I guess to address that.
"They've [Sony] got their own exclusives. You look at Super Stardust, which is exclusive to PS3. It works the other way round. For people complaining, at the same time, people on LIVE Arcade can't play Super Stardust or PAIN or a bunch of titles. It's just the way the world works really."
I didn't realize PS3 fans were getting that pissed off at Team 17, but it just goes to show that console loyalists will find anything to get distraught over. I suppose that's what happens with teenagers (or adults with the minds of teenagers) continue to live in idealistic dreamworlds facilitated by the fact that they live with their parents and don't understand that people need to make business decisions. A fair few members of the gaming community really should learn how to be realistic and understand that if the world ran their way, nobody would have any money.
umm no it isn't, sony can do whatever they want but publishers control the release dates and can do a simultaneous release if they want to and if the publishers are getting flack for their timetables they can't go and blame people for getting angry about the situation that they created- sony isn't sitting there saying- "don't publish this, we want to wait and let MS get an exclusive timed release"
Now what am I supposed to say?
You get Worms and Alien Breed, we get Pain. Come on. It happens to be a two way road.
I'm joking, but you get the idea...But seriously. Pain is hot.
I seem to recall that happening to a well-designed series of games on the PS1, the Oddworld series.
...and look where that ended up.
Worms started out on the Amiga and ended up being ported to just about every other platform that was on the market, I remember playing it on the SNES.
That's total bullcrap. Worms found its place in PC gaming. Ask anybody who plays it now; they all remember playing Worms Armageddon on their PCs, not any other systems.
Nice attempt at being a fanboy, though. Needed more "Microshitting fagtarts."
They would call her the same if she slept with everyone else.
There have been times where I've wanted a game that was out for Wii and PS3 also come to 360, but until I buy those consoles, I won't be able to play them and I accept that fact. Games are business (A SERIOUS BUSINESS), and shit is going to happen isn't always going to go your way. Stop acting like every publisher owes your console-of-choice something.
I'm not accusing Team17 of bribery--but as a few others have pointed out, Brown's statement pretty much fesses up they give priority to MS because they get promoted by them. It's just a legal way of saying one has taken a gift of compensation to prioritize to specific parties.
and worms did not get a boost from the playstation brand. it has, and always been asociated with pc gaming. maybe it was different in your little world. your tiny, little world.
i'm really glad team 17 brought this up. it really brings to light a more rational reason on why stuff either shows up a lot later on playstation, or not at all other than what the sony boys and sony rep harp on. sony is still in the stubbourn, disallusioned state of "we're still the industry leaders" when clearly the developers say different and think of the playstation brand as a second thought.
@ Drunk Ste
"I hate to single one type but Sony fanboys are by far the most vocal online"
are you sure?

@Whatthi
Unequivobaly so.
Without doubt.
Actual factual.
So, so true.
Amen.
Word to the third.
Hells yes.
Gyeeeahh.
ETC....
wait... that's not a bribe?
Come on man, Yeah the Killzone monkeys were shoutin' there gobs off. but, dont for a second think that halo 3 wasn't so verbally and idiotically supported.. I can't see that either side is any 'better' than the other really.
Honest question now [i say that because its hard to just type/ask things these days without people getting defensive and gobby, not saying you do, just in general] If your a PC gamer, then why bother with a 360? The PC can do anythin a 360 can do, just better!? I too am a PC gamer [not so much at the minute] and dont really see the need for my 360 mainly because my PC does a better job of windows/PC games. I just see the 360 as a cheap PC in a living room box. I have a PS3 also, which is my most used console. The PS3 offers me game experience's that I cant get on PC or 360.
Don't get me wrong I have had some great fun on my 360.. but, nuthin essential. A lot of people slate the PS3 exclusive games and networking. But, a lot of the games are fucking fantastic fun and I cant play them on a 360 or PC. A lot of 360 'exclusive' fun can be enjoyed on a PC. I dont really see a problem with the networking either!? LIVE is great. But, you do have to pay for something that is free on both PS3 and PC. Also, I dont want animated avatars or all that other advertising on my console. The PSN is not as technically accomplished. But, does its job absolutely fine..
Feel free to tell me your side of things :D
I know xbox fanboys are awful too, and God help me, I hope I don't come across as a total fanboy. I have access to a friend's PS3, and I play it quite a bit, but as of yet, I've seen nothing other than KZ2 (ironically) that makes me want one. But I won't rule it out. I think I need to break my psychological link that I place with Playstation and Japanese games. Out of the hundreds of Japanese games I've played over the years, I've only ever liked about three, so I kind of assume (but to assume makes an ass of u and me, I know) that Playstation is not the brand for me.
So to summarise, it's the 360's link to PC gaming that won me over in the first place. Something the PS3 doesn't really hold, in my mind. Oh, and Gears2 MP.
See, as far as I can tell, the fanboys are barking up the wrong tree with all this talk of specs, graphics and Blu-rays.. The real deal is the software on it! The only reason I bought the 360 [also £50] was to play fable2 [loved it], Gears2 [loved it] & halo3 [which i thought was a joke of a game ] now i am only really keeping it for splinter cell & maybe a lil' alan wake when it finally arrives. I couldn't care less about GPU's or CPU's the console's both have pro's & con's and I don't think I have a lesser experience on my PS3, even though 360 fanboys seem to tell me otherwise :P
So thanks for a good reply.. too many times people just reply by telling me that "PS3 is for fucktards" or somehing equally as intelligent.
We all love a bit of trolling. Its just nice to find out peoples real reasons behind their comments. Obviously sexualchocolate was touched in his special place by people on benefits while he was growing up. dear of him.
ps. i am going to find him on psn and i AM going to fuck him up :P haha
