[As originally posted on Japanator]

To catch everyone up on their anime history real quick, Tatsunoko Productions is the historical anime studio that's brought us classic titles Speed Racer, Macross, Gatchaman, and Samurai Pizza Cats. Production I.G. and Studio Pierrot both grew out of Tatsunoko; you might even say they're the MTM of the anime industry. Alright, that's a bit much of a claim.

Anyways, back at the end of May, Jonathan Holmes brought us a tasty little Famitsu scan showing off the first images of the game. Much like Marvel vs. Capcom, this new title is a tag-team fighter that'll be using the Street Fighter IV style of animation. For anyone who's been a fan of anime, these titles are dear childhood memories, and so this game's got a bit of excitement behind it. Here's the roster of who's confirmed for Bra-- sorry, force of habit.

Tatsunoko characters:

  • Ken (Gatchaman)
  • Casshern (Casshern)
  • Tekkaman (Tekkaman)
  • Yatterman One (Yatterman)
  • Polymar (Hurricane Polymar)
  • Gold Lightan (Gold Lightan) [Note: He can only be played solo, and has one life bar instead of two.]
Capcom Characters:
  • Ryu
  • Chun-Li
  • Alex (Street Fighter 3)
  • Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
  • Batsu (Rival Schools)
  • Soki (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams)
I'm sure later issues of Famitsu will leak out bits of information of who else is going to be in it. I doubt they'll follow Nintendo's trail and announce details every day -- there's not enough random minutiae to get everyone hot and bothered over this. Well, maybe for everyone over at Japanator.

They played on a Mega Man stage. I'm hoping Mega Man will be in this game! He was always an underrated character in all the Marvel vs Capcom games.

how hard is it to pull of combos in this type of fighter?

That is the worst resolution video that I've ever seen and I'm still 100,000 times more excited for this than SFIV. From what I could make out, it looks like the SFIII engine, so I'm sure the animation and art are going to be nothing short of amazing. Count me in! I'm going to import this and a system too, if need be.

We need to get started now to get this game hyped and more people interested. I want it because it's a sweet Capcom fighter, and could care less about the Tatsu characters noted so far, though from what I understand there could be some cool ones. Gatchaman looks awesome. However, it's up to us to let Capcom know we're interested in this game. I hate missing out on good fighters just because people think westerners aren't into fighting games as much as Japan.

I loved the effect on the shinkuu hadouken.

I did not give a shit about this game until I saw it in action, so that video got my attention.

I'd prefer it if Capcom put off SF4 and gave this game more of the spotlight. It seems like no one knows anything about this.

Too bad that most US anime fans (not really otaku) don't know who half these characters are or the titles they come from.

I went through multiple pairs of pants watching that. When the Gesselschaft showed up, I just burned my dresser.

If Megaman, any of them, makes it into the game, I will burn all of the pants in town. If it comes stateside, I'll just keep burning pairs of pants. No more pants. Ever.

@JynxShot:

I lol'd.

I hold out a mild hope that this game could come stateside by tweaking the Tatsunoko characters to be mild ripoffs (a la the mecha in Tech Romancer) to skirt the licensing fiasco.

@braulio09:

Gatchaman IS G-Force. or Battle of the Planets if you are as old as I am.
cryocide's Avatar
cryocide at 07/09/2008 18:32
@Braulio: G-force, Battle of the Planets, and Gatchaman are all the same footage, only rearranged with different audio and stories. The 7-Zark-7 scenes were added as filler in Battle of the Planets. You can find more info in Wikipedia's entry for Gatchaman. P.S. OMG, "Braulio" reminds me of this AOL meme I once saw about 10 years ago...

Here are the Capcom characters I'll be looking for: Megaman, X, Sigma, Zero, and Protoman from Megaman; Claire, Leon, Tyrant, Nemesis from Resident Evil; Frank West, Isabela Keyes, Carlito Keyes, Adam Macintyre (the clown) from Dead Rising; Nathan Spencer from Bionic Commando; Dante, Trish, and Virgil from Devil May Cry; Main guys from Hyper Dyne Side Arms; Arthur and Lucifer from Ghosts 'n Goblins

I wonder if it'll be on PS2. The graphics sure seem PS2/Dreamcast quality.
Anyway, I was excited about this game as soon as I'd heard of it, and the video only makes me moreso. Now, to wait for the high res trailer. :D

Also, remixed Ryu and Gatchaman themes are full of win.
