Target flyer confirms Xbox 360 Pro and Elite price cuts photo

Damn, an Xbox 360 Pro for $250? That's just about good enough of a price to tempt me to get a second system.

If these Target ads that we saw on engadget are real and correct, the Xbox 360 60GB Pro will cost only $249 (free 2nd controller!), while the 120GB Elite will only be $50 more. These are supposed to be next week's ads, so these prices may be set to go into effect by Sunday, August 30th.

We all expected Microsoft to go toe-to-toe with Sony and their price drop, and now it looks like it's happening. To me, it seems to have less of an impact than the PS3 drop did. Not to sound like a total PS3 fan boy, but I would rather Microsoft stuck in WiFi and kept the price the same.

It's still great news, though, and it will surely pay off this holiday for them.

As i've said on many 360 price cut threads

This will not have the same effect as the PS3 price drop will.

The 360 has always been affordable, if you couldn't buy an elite or pro before you would buy an arcade. Whereas if you couldn't afford a PS3 before... well, you couldn't get a PS3.

This will pick up a few sales but not as many as the PS3 price drop.

And Europe gets price rises? How is this fair?

Also this could be stock clearing.

We've all seen the signs pointing towards the MS discontinuing the PRO model.

I just want to know how much hassle it will be to get my controllers to sit against my 360 like in the picture.

OMG FANBOY! YOU SAID THE PS3 PRICE CUT IS MORE IMPORTANT. But I agree with the wi-fi comment. I still don't understand why it isn't built in yet.

Have you neglected to put yours on a bar stool like in the picture? That's probably why.

And just when my Elite decided to take a fat deuce on my entertainment center, how serendipitous!

Still, that gave me all the more reason to fire up the ol' PSTres. The Wii won't have anything until Muramasa and TvC.

@njsykora

Two reasons.

1) The pound is weaker.

2) This is a reaction to the PS3 price drop and in Europe/UK the 360's three models are still cheaper than the PS3.

Don't play the "pound is weaker" card, we in the UK have been screwed over for ages and the Xbox price rise is no exception. Activision didn't raise the RRP of the new COD because of the value of our currency - they did it because they could.

It's because it costs more to to stuff here.

Gas costs more.
Electricity costs more.
Internet costs more.
Premises cost more.
Staff cost more.
All other overheads, cost more.

You get the picture. The company doesn't want to make less money in this country so they charge more for the game or system to justify the extra business costs they have.

That said, it doesn't always equate, for example the price of the PSPgo is well over what it should be when taking into account all of the above.

I wouldn't worry about the U.K too much. Sure, the pound is weaker, but reductions will come in the xmas/new years sales.

If I had the money, I'd bag a second back up one.

Word up bitches! I've just had a bit of a busy day at work, no time for Destructoid ramblings, more important things to do than bait 360fanboys.

Oh yeah, and what the Reborn said. - Hey Reborn, add me on PSN - user name in my profile.

I agree with Dale on the whole WiFi thing, it's a bit of a given that an internet enabled device in this day and age should have WiFi built in. just like it's a given that a wireless device (controller) should have a power unit / recharger built in.

Or that a games console which is pretty much a PC should accept standard HDD's.

But hey, MS doesn't care about stuff like that, they've got to make up the difference of their cheap console somewhere right?

sorry but I have to agree w/ Sexualchocolate on this one- there is no reason for the wii to have a leg up on technology over the 360 (wifi)

I also have to agree with Sexualchocolate. Everybody has been harping on about the PS3's price for...like...ever. Now that the PS3 is very much in the same ballpark as the 360 Elite, surely the Elite should at least have Wi-Fi, rechargable controllers without buying rechargable batteries, a history of reliability (okay wishful thinking that one) & cheaper/swappable hard drives - or the whole things should be considerably cheaper than the PS3.

The 360 is starting to look a little expensive now.

Don't forget that the Wii, and PS3 also have Blu Tooth, which the 360 doesn't have that either. So I guess the Wii has two legs up on the 360 technology wise LOL!

The Xbox 360 is in serious issue of pricing especially with their accessories. Why would you buy an arcade model when you would likely spend another $100-$150 for a HDD? $100 for a wifi? What a rip off MS. I've been playing Xbox last year but got enough of RRoD. It made me switch to PS3. I felt that it was worth it.

Given what the system is coming with, I think they should have marked the Pro down to at least $200.

I love this pricecut just because I get to see sony fans whine again about the superior features of their system as though screaming about it on a web blog will improve the company's PR

But Dale, sticking in wi-fi and keeping the price the same is identical to dropping the price and keeping wi-fi as an accessory, except that people who don't care about wi-fi don't have to pay more.

still is the same thing ......... in 360 you need to pay their services and if you need wi-fi you will need to buy the accessory is the same shit ........... for now the PS3 is the best deal.....

Has the failure rate gotten any lower? If not, that really bothers me they think can cut price instead of using the money to increase the quality.

Those who stir the flames are no better than those who started them, you throw around the phrase "those sony fans" without so much as a clue that such a phrase makes you sound like "one of those 360 fans" and yet you we're puzzled as to why I labeled you troll a few weeks back in that activision article. People can slightly disagree with your point of view without being fanboys, you are aware of this right?

Now Reborn actually brought up a good point(though I don't know if it was intentional or not)why does the non blu-ray system with a (100$) optional wifi adapter (even the Wii has built in wi-fi, come on its standard) on the online play you have to pay for cost as much as the free to play online blu-ray,wifi equiped one?

In the past they seemed to be aware of the fact that it shouldn't (ps3 600$, 360 elite 500, PS3 500$, 360 elite 400$) so needless to say now that they're not doing that anymore the overall value of their machine a decreased a lot(and this is without going into exclusives, the rrod and such and such) and no one is puzzled by that?

I do wonder which came first in the upper echelons of Microsoft, was it the idea of consumers building their own experience depending on what they wanted, or was it the overpriced accessories?

If Microsoft would decrease or drop the cost of Xbox Live, they would do very well out of it. But that decision would require them to be in touch with actual gamers, and if the NXE and Avatars have told me anything it is that they are fucking clueless. Or mean.

Just a heads up here, the premium Avatar content renders your profile unreadable to all consoles which haven't had the particular item purchased on. Don't put premium clothing on your avatar if you wish to transport your gamertag on a memory card. This was also the case with consoles with older versions of the Avatar wardrobe. This ridiculous shit was pushed through so quickly they didn't even think to ensure it didn't fuck up.

I have to agree with those not bothered by the lack of internal wi-fi... it's only a "deficiency" compared to the PS3/Wii if you can't play near your router.... which usually won't be a problem when you can pick out an appropriately long ethernet cable at a thrift store, i.e. 99-cent store.

you know I've always been unbiased towards 360 and thought maybe I'd buy one someday, but idk. They just seem kinda expensive for what they offer. $350-$400 for a wifi, which I need, system. And basically it's $350 if I buy now while the pro model is still out, or pay an extra $50 for a black paint job later.

Not gonna tempt me to buy one. I'll admit Gears2 is a great game but there isn't enough games of that caliber.
