Target begins game reservation program on April 19 photo

Target has announced today that on April 19, it will begin a new videogame reservation program in their stores nationwide. You can now purchase a "collectible reservation card" for $1; when the card is returned to pick up the reserveration within seven days of the games release, you get a $5 Target GiftCard towards a future purchase.

This deal will only apply to certain games, however. The program kicks off with Punch Out!!, EA Sports Active, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, and UFC 2009 Undisputed

Admittedly, I spend more time in Target than I'd like. I usually go in to buy a package of socks or something and end up also walking out with kitty litter, cereal, a George Foreman grill, some t-shirts, a 12-pack of Pepsi, frozen pizzas, a digital camera, magnets that look like lions, a Wolverine Mighty Mugg, and gum. Now I can reserve games for a buck and get a $5 gift card? This isn't going to end well.

They've done this before, too. I pre-ordered Pokemon Pearl from Target.

Funny. They actually have a better pre-order program than Gamestop.

@Zombie
When I used to work at Target, they didn't have that in my local area. All they had for Pearl/Diamond was a "collectible stylus".

Also this incentive program is something I used to tell my GM all the time to pass on to corporate. Target's electronics section sucked, then after I quit they do all these $60-$40 new game deals, and this. Now, why wouldn't you buy it at Target since it's cheaper then everywhere else?

A collectable card? The card itself costs 1 dollar but you have to return the card to get the game?

@gatorsax2010: Likewise my friend... in the back, and it's not pretty.
