Tales of Hearts: Anime vs. CGI time! photo

If you have a hard-on for comparing CGI and anime renders of spooky looking girls and diminutive witches, then you are in for the treat of a lifetime this morning! Two new images have been revealed showing off Tales of Hearts' main cast in both flashy computer graphics and old school doodling.

As we've explained eight hundred times before, Tales of Hearts is being released as two different versions -- each version containing either anime or CG cutscenes. This DS game, the 11th chapter in the Tales franchise, is sure to cut a line between the traditionalist and the modernist.

Which do you prefer? The big-eyed scribbling of the anime, or the dead-eyed creepiness of the CGI? Or will you do what Namco Bandai hopes you'll do and end up buying both?

I'll take the anime style. They can keep the creepy looking CGI..

Wow. It looks so much better as anime. I hate creepy, soulless CGI.

The CG looks like a page out of a cheap asian fashion magazine

Dunno, I could do either. The Tales series has always had the anime cutscenes so the traditionalist in me wants to pick that one, although I don't think the game would be spoiled with the CGI either.

I'm not a Tales fan anyway, but I think the CGI just looks bad. They look like spoiled kids with jackass haircuts.

Both sets don't look that great but yeah, the CGI characters don't have any where near the finesse they need to pull off that look.

I hate anime - a lot - but the characters were obviously designed as anime and look bizarre without that style. Especially the witch girl.

The more I look at both pictures, the more pissed off I get. Fuck both games!

They both look equally ridiculous. When the game is cel-shaded, both anime and cgi would break the flow. CGI because it just looks totally different, anime because it's suddenly all 2D and moves differently. Haven't really kept up to date on the game though...

The loli in the red hat does look really really scary!

They both freak me out... I had to click back and forth about 900 times. I guess the anime looks better overall.

Whilst the CGI has its charms, I'll plump for the anime style. (Btw, the guy to the left on the anime shot looks a bit like L from Deathnote...)
