I had a dream last night that I purchased Duke Nukem Forever and then Best Buy wouldn't let me return it. It was terrifying.
I'll just reinstall Quake and avoid the shame. Not trying to troll but I just don't see the Duke IP being relevant anymore. However, I'm sure a cleaver writer could pull it off but I'll be danged if I can see how (note: not a writer and I don't even play one on TV nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn last night).

Everyone bought DN:Forever as a novelty, I don't think anyone cares that the game was good or not, just that after all these years it finally came out.

I want to see more of Duke. I'm in the minority that loved DNF, and i'd love to see some more Duke shenannigans.
If anyone can hammer the Duke IP in to something decent, it's Gearbox. Hopefully Take Two let's them have a crack at any future Duke titles, from the ground up.

I'm confident it'll be better with Gearbox working on it from the start. At least I'm assuming Take-Two is going to have Gearbox be the developer.
Again DNF is not as bad as you make it out to be. It's not a masterpiece by any means but it's still entertaining.

@Epic you're not alone, i hated the first hour but then i got the ripper and i guess i just realized that its a solid shooter, hell i even like the driving sections the handling of the mighty foot is good. So i wont mind some more Duke!

If Gearbox do it from the ground up, it's got a fighting chance. I liked DNF, but the constant changing of hands really compromised the quality.
The next game will have to actually be good. It wont be able to ride the momentum of being a decade and a half long joke novelty the next time around.
lol Jim's pretty bitter it didn't crash and burn. The only reason people bought it because it's a decent shooter. Luckily the gaming public are nothing like reviewers.
I liked DNF too, it's like a movie you enjoy and laugh at with some friends. Let's hope they make something better, though!
I hope they bring back Duke's Duke Nukem I,II, and 3D's hardcore action hero personality instead of the later games' "hedonist" Duke persona. I also hope the new Duke game is more like System Shock and Deus Ex.

Yes I'm stoked on this news! I loved dnf because it is just so fun as all duke games are. I'm sure this new one will be great as well. ^^
Hopefully they let Anthony Burch write for Duke Begins. It'll at least be funny, and if there's one thing he can do is write deluded egotistic sociopaths.

This. As much as (the demo for) Duke 4 made me want to kill myself and never play another videogame ever ever again, I hold out hope that, given an empty canvas from which to start, Gearbox can deliver something worthwhile.

Meh... maybe next time they'll get it right. The franchise has possibilities as we need more fun games - but next time they'll have to actually make it fun!
I agree with you Jim. I love Gearbox and I think that if anyone can do it, they can make a GOOD Duke game from scratch.

@Brian Green Gearbox does good work, that's why I'm slightly optimistic. Then again, Take Two could just have someone else develop it and have it be a huge flop.
I freaking loved DNF! It's in the same political correctness of DN3D; only, the world is a bunch of pussies right now. And like Randy Pitchford quoted, about looking at DNF for narrative depth: "It's like Rolling Stone magazine trying to find a deep meaningful message in a Ke$ha song." And the graphics are perfect (on PC) and gameplay is not broken at all (still didn't get this comment), it's fun shooter, that's all.

@Brad Nieder Just remembering, who owns the Duke Nukem IP is Gearbox, not 2K. 2K only owned the publishing rights to DNF, but the Duke is in the right hands. =)
Some people seem to be a bit backwards. Gearbox completely own the rights to the Duke Nukem IP. 2k were the publishers of DNF... they don't own Duke. So any future games WILL be made by Gearbox, not anyone else.
I've been a Duke fan since D3D like most people. I LOVED Duke Nukem Forever. I do not agree with the bad reviews at all. It was fun, funny, and had balls of steel. Old school run and gun gaming at its finest. Multiplayer is also a blast just like Duke 3D. A fast paced frag fest.

DNF was full of something that the actual review profession seem to have forgotten exists in their pursuit of the ultimate modern combat game....FUN. Give me more Duke rather than the next sub standard, rated 9's in ever publication because Activision buys em nice things Modern Warfare game.
Man. This is one of those games where a demo, let you know exactly what you were in for. When I played the demo on PC and died a little inside, I knew to save my loot.

It pisses me off when the game critic community trip over themselves to throw out perfect scores for games like Black Ops that is a very boring single player game built around a multiplayer game that is almost an exact replica of the previous CODs, yet these same people find it necessary to crush Duke Forever. Duke was actually FUN and humorous, something long dead from most shooters today.
Oh yeah, I forgot, trashing Duke is what gets the page views...nevermind, carry on 'journalists.'

I actually liked the gameplay in DNF - the gunplay, the minigames, and even the driving parts. But I don't know how anyone could have played through something like the Hive and not be disgusted by the scenes of women suffering, screaming and crying, while Duke jokes about it? And then makes another joke while two characters *apologize* for being raped by aliens? That kind of killed the ***FUN!!!*** I was having. There's a difference between dark humor and being mean-spirited and creepy.
So yeah, I'm all for a Duke reboot, and I think Gearbox would do a far better job than a bunch of dirty old creeps pounding out code in a kitchen.

And how many people bought the game and were fully satisfied with the final product? I'd say just as many. Everyone I know loved it, and I did too. It was fun, but everyone wanted it to be something that it was never supposed to be.
Just because you hate it doesn't mean everyone does, Jim. I'd say the numbers are 50/50 at least, if not higher in favor of the final product. I, for one, am loving DNF. Running through a second time on the brutal difficulty and trying to nab the remaining achievements. The multiplayer is pretty entertaining too.

I liked Duke Nukem Forever. Almost all reviews, including Jim's, were far more harsh than they needed to be. The demo feature two of the worst levels in the game, which is a shame.

I found the controls to be bunk, the graphics wildly uneven, and the humor lacking. Doesn't hold a candle to DN3D (which I've played the hell out of since it's original release). Yes, I know that some will say that the game is a throwback to 10 years ago, but even the N64 has shooters that hold up better today than this game.
Gearbox has been successful in the past, so I won't judge the future of Duke based on this latest game alone...but damn, you're going to have to impress me. Start by making Duke less of a prick.
