Take-Two: PlayStation Move is 'Wii HD' photo

Are you one of those people gagging for an HD Wii? According to publisher Take-Two, the wait is almost over, since Sony has us covered!

"What Sony and Microsoft have really done with Kinect and Move, especially Move, is provide a bridge for guys that are used to playing the Wii system with the wand and bringing them over to a HD system," says CEO Ben Feder. "The PS3 with Move, in my view, is the Wii HD system. I think maybe mom isn't playing, but the kids are graduating, and Microsoft and Sony have both provided a bridge to bring them over."

I disagree with that statement, mostly for the fact that people wanted an HD Wii to see better looking versions of Nintendo franchises. Acting like Move meets the demand for an HD Wii represents a sad attitude I've noticed in the industry -- the attitude that seems to think copying hardware is enough.

Software is what is important, and when Move gets experiences that match Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda or even Kirby's Epic Yarn, then we can call it the Wii HD.

Take-Two: PS3 Move is "Wii HD" [Edge]

Here comes sexual chocolate to mention all of PS3's good games that had move controls tacked on to them, then posit that they are part of the Move library

Yep agreed. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Move and a copy of Sports Championsm but the launch software is nothing special and I hope that more interesting games are on the horizon as developers get to grips with what the Move can do.

only without the huge names that make us idiots keep flocking to Nintendo. I don't see the Move having any solid direction to go to.. They won't pick up the casual crowd due to the price and they won't pick up enough hardcore to keep it alive.

Have you noticed how none of those titles use the Wii's motion controls in any signifigant way?

I guess. Thing is, Sony is going to support the regular controller more than Nintendo supported the classic controller. Most Wii games don't even need motion controls. They're just forced.

I don't see Sony forcing motion controls on us anytime soon.

you say copying hardware is not enough but then in the last sentence you make it sound like copying software is. it's not either. that's the reason why all consoles survive when most games have been copied from one to another.

So Nintendo still have the games that keep their fans loyal and Move may not be Wii HD but since Nintendo is not giving gamers what they want they're going to turn to Sony. the majority of gamers enjoy motion control gaming but there are many of them who are turned away by Wii's lack of power.

I think Nintendo has to enter the HD market yesterday! they are losing time and buyers, the Wii has not fared very well in 2010.

I would agree with most of that. One of the reasons I want the Move is because I own a Wii, and I know that when a game on the Wii is done right it's a hell of a lot of fun.

The Move looks like it's going to tighten up the experience given to gamers with the Wii, and at the same time the Move tech should also provide developers with the ability to create new things they weren't able to do on the Wii.

If you want to talk about the games, let's talk about those, but the PS Move is better then Nintendo's motioncontroller is. If you say otherwise you've been living in a cave and never even watched any of the techdemos from Sony and first of all : you haven't even tried the Move.

Agreed. Hardware is not everything and you'll never see gems like Super Mario Galaxy on the PS3. I have my move bundle now but if they would release a Wii HD I'd still buy it. :)

This is a ironic statement, coming form the same company that gave the Wii Carnival Games. A game that they crapped out on the Wii, but it went on to sell almost 4 million copies and was spun off into two more sequels that both sold over a million units each on the DS, and Wii.

Do they honestly think that they're going to just jump ship over to the MOVE and have the same success as they did on the Wii? Yeah right, good luck trying to sell Carnival Games HD. You will be lucky if it sells 400,000 units on the PS3, at alone the almost 4 million units that you sold on the Wii!

I was hoping that Sony would bring something new to the table but sadly no. After playing with the move two weeks ago I have to agree. It does pretty much exactly what the wii does but without Mario. Not that that the recent Mario games have done anything for me personally but alot of people do love them. As for Kinect... well I can't say anything right now.

None of the examples you cited are great examples of motion control for the Wii. And there are already games on the PS3 that are up to those titles.

@malik

The only games that are great examples of motion control are minigame collections (like Wii Sports resort). Odds are as you read that you rolled your eyes, or won't take mini game collections seriously (I wouldn't blame you). However it's pretty much impossible to make a triple A game that hardcore gamers won't scoff at if it has more motion controls than a few gestures. What I'm getting at is, even if the move's tech is better, it's still going to be minigame collections, or just a few gesture gimmicks here or there.

All I want is a Wii HD, with better games for the core gamer and more accurate controls. I'm not a fan if the kiddie shit you get on the Wii, not a fan of Nintendo 1st party titles at all.

Looks like I'm getting exactly what I want on Friday!

@llort het
I'm more than happy with the OPTION of Move controls in my AAA exclusive titles thank you very much. Games don't have to be Move only to count towards awesome support.

As someone says, too many Wii games don't need motion controls and with the Move offering the OPTION of Move or Dualshock, surely everyone's happy right?

Apparently not.

I just noticed that I've got Eyepet in my collection, forgot about that, apparently it's getting a Move patch too rather than a new version! - Awesome!

Still not getting move I can move already XD. Jokes aside I still don't care much for either of them the move for the PS3 not the Xbox's failure of of motion control. Mind you I like the 360. I think the move will do good at the start but only time will tell if will work out in the end.

I don't think Sony are going to sell many more PS3s off the back of this, but I don't think that's their strategy. It's an incremental addition that most PS3 owners will be able to justify of the back of one AAA title that they think will work for this.

Speaking for myself, I will probably get this if it's bundled with Heavy Rain (I actually delayed my purchase to see how this pans out) or if a neat way of shooting and stabbing Helghast in the eye is provided for KZ3 - light pistol, or preferably, rifle.

i was waiting to see a "captain obvious" tag in the article, ps3 + move= hd games, some with motion control... i own the 3 consoles but if you ask me i would prefer to play tennis controlling real players with good graphics and, of course, with a controller that is able to interpret my movements

i am one that would love it if nintendo upgraded the console sooner than later to have better graphics and HD, oh, and the ability to play online. If that happend, i would probably play my nintendo (wii hd) more, but now it is just my xbox and ps3 that gets the play time.

BTW: graphics aren't what is important. Yes, nice graphics is nice, but i have plenty of games that control great, great story, and fun! Yet are not eye candy. i have been on the fence with Move. First i had a pre order on amazon, then i cancelled it seeing the only games worth playing at its launch is sports champions-not interested in eye pet. But now I am thinking about it again due to the fact i got a 25 dollar coupon and kmart has a GC for it. But still. I wish it came with two wands for the 100 bucks.hate having to buy a second one for another 50.
BTW: sexual choc-your idea of "kiddie games" makes zero sense due to the fact that nintendo first party games are for the family and the majority that play it are over the age of 18. Oh, and you have eye pet??? what? I hate to say it, but sometimes your bias comments make me want to burn my ps3. This is again-why i wish there was a site of 'gamers' and no fanboys.

Yeah, I think technically move is a step up from wii. But, as we have seen throughout videogame history. The software will make or break the hardware. As you mentioned, only if the games reach the standard of the wii first party titles will it become a wii HD. But, even then.. wouldn't they prefer it to be known as the playstation move?

@ Matthew Blevins

I'm a core gamer. I dont really enjoy the wii first party titles. I have nuthin against them, i just dont find that cuetsy [kidde in sexualchocolates comment] style appealing.

Personally, I think the whole console war comes down to the people that play the console. Not the actual hardware.

Nintendo fans like nintendo because they like the type of game it offers.

Playstation fans like playstation because they like the type of game it offers.

Xbox fans have mental difficulties.. joke. you get the picture.

In a way, I understand what he's saying. I have friends who bought a Wii, then graduated to a PS3 or 360, and are now looking forward to getting Move or Kinect. For exactly the reasons he's specified. Because they are looking forward to playing more visually impressive games with new fangled motion. However, I wouldn't really call them gamers. They get excited by every new device, buy it, play for a month, then move on.

But at the same time, this thinking pisses me off. I have the 3 major consoles, and can assure you, I still haven't had an experience of pure fun on the 2 HD behemoths that could rival Mario Galaxy 2. Apart from maybe Ninja Gaiden 2. And to all the people who say 'I don't like Nintendo 1st party titles', what are you, soul less? On top of that, there are plenty of other hardcore experiences on the Wii (Madworld, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, COD, Resi, Dead Space, Monster Hunter, Tiger Woods, Pro Evo, etc). If you wanted, at this stage in it's life it could be your only console and you would still be set for every game type. Ultimately, it just seems like a sales strategy by Take Two, as the only games they put on the Wii are ususally crappy mini game compilations via 2K. So, what reason have they got to be nice about the Wii.

Saying you like EyePet and saying you don't like 'kiddie games' just makes no sense and is just proof of your fanboyism.

I've been able to play some Wii games and the ones that I actually liked are the ones that don't force the motion controls.
New SMB was really good because it had good normal controls and just had some gestures that didn't break the gameplay. Super Mario Galaxy is another great example.

And you know, those are not M-rated games but are amazingly fun.

To me, motion control (and 3D) are still just too gimmicky the way they are right now, they should wait for the technology to advance a bit more. OR they should try to use those technologies in a good way, not just: "Flail your arms insanely to open a door" or "Look! Bullets are coming towards you! WOW!" (3D)
