Remember the news from earlier this year that wacky-tobacky Japanese film director Takashi Miike was going to give the Ace Attorney series the live-action film treatment? A couple days ago, Capcom Europe posted the first still from the film shoot; just yesterday, teaser footage that aired on Japanese television was uploaded to YouTube.
As you can see above, the film is looking deliciously campy and fun. Phoenix and Edgeworth engage in a heated "OBJECTION!" ("IGIARI!") screaming match, Phoenix scrambles to produce evidence that he's not even sure is in his possession, and Minority Report-like holographic displays appear in the air at the snap of a finger -- err, well, the games do technically take place in the future. We even catch a few glimpses that confirm the Manfred von Karma chapter from the original game will be incorporated in the story.
The end result may possibly be a crock of sh*t, but Phoenix's crazy, slicked-back, cockatiel hairstyle is giving me a glimmer of hope. The film will drop in early 2012; perhaps some magic will happen and the eventual DVD release will receive a Western localization.

Meet the rest of the team
I think this shows off an interesting difference between American video game movies and Japanese ones. American adaptations always seem to redesign the characters until they're nearly unrecognizable, but this movie it's like they put on Phoenix Wright Halloween costumes, totally accurate no matter how campy they might look
I really hate when I see videos like these. I wish they would shown the trailer by itself, THEN talk about it. Having them watch it and scream all the way through is downright annoying.
Ugh, why do they have to use young doll-faced teenage actors for Phoenix and Miles? For me I always imagined the actor for both of them to actually be men rather than boys; like Narita Ken or Tomokazu Sugita. While they're at it, Norio Wakamoto as the police superintendent.
But eh, most likely will not watch it, for the same reason I didn't watch the live-action Death Note movies.
I didn't know the actors' respective ages. I had assumed they are younger, but my point is still that the actors chosen to play them isn't really what I had thought would carry the image of Phoenix and Miles. Granted the ages match, but their faces sure ain't molded in the same image.
Both Phoenix and Miles are incredibly young and fresh-faced. Phoenix especially is very expressive and naive. An actor who looked "seasoned" would betray the character's behavior.
So, second and last case of the original Ace Attorney, seems like?
Mia seems to die somewhere along the way, and the boat scene, DL6 and Manfred Von Karma say that Edgeworth's trial is in there. I can't wait for the talking Parrot. :P
I can't quite place the woman at 1:27 though. The one between what are clearly Lotta Heart and the Butz.
Anyone have an idea?
I think this looks great, hope there's a translation eventually. God, this makes me think maybe Miike should be the one doing the Akira remake (never thought I'd be saying that).
@Vitruvius Otoko
If your a fan of the games I wouldve thought youd want the film to be sucessful for the sake of the franchise which is struggling atm
Also, the Death Note films were brilliant, youre missing out
I'm. . .not really sure what to think about this. On one hand, it looks terribly campy. Like Dick Tracy campy circa 1990. On the other hand, it's quite possible that the movie might end up okay, considering that Takashi Miike is directing it. I don't know. I can't really decide to be outraged or cautiously optimistic.
haha, I think they took the costumes a bit to literal from the games. Edgeworth looks ridiculous! That hair...that long beautiful hair.
errr ehem, I mean, they could have just slicked back Phoenix's hair and I would have been ok with that, but they had to give him that crazy as shit hair line. It's so sharp o.o
Is it wrong that I wasn't completely into this movie until I saw that live-action Blue Badger? Looks like they'll be incorporating a lot from the mythos. Hope it does well; can't wait to see Godot.
Also, Sammo Hung-alike Manfred von Karma is hilarious in my mind.

Ummmm... the actors for Phoenix and Miles are 29 and 30, respectively.
In any case, in the games, both Phoenix and Miles are in their mid-20s. Why would middle-aged actors be picked to play them? That's just backwards.

Stupid Tony! "Betray" isn't the proper word to use in this situation!
MY GOD, LOTTA.

Holy fucking shit this movie is going to be awesome, and I've never even played the Ace Attorney games.
