Taito trademarks 'Pet Shop Mama,' PETA on high alert photo

With a number of successful Cooking Mama games already on the market and another title in the oven (Gardening Mama), Mama sure does get around.

But it doesn't stop in the kitchen or in the garden -- it looks like Mama might be getting some animal friends in the near future. On November 11, Taito Japan filed for trademark of "Pet Shop Mama" in relation to software and all manner of other things potentially videogame-related. What such a game would possibly have mama doing is up for speculation, but we have high hopes for kitten-toenail-clipping mini-games.

Earlier today, we told you about PETA's not-so-sublte attack on the Cooking Mama series with their "unauthorized" Flash game, Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals. We suspect Pet Shop Mama will be a little less, shall we say, M-rated.

I wouldn't put it above PETA to make a Pet Shop Mama parody. They've protested and firebombed animal shelters for daring to place the animals in cages, so it's easy to imagine them lampooning pet shops as humiliating and degrading to animals, reducing them into products that can be "owned". They DID try to sue for pet owners to be called "pet guardians", after all.

The training of these poor creatures... to turn themselves into domestic companions... is simply barbaric. BARBARIC!

BARBARIC.

Let that word resound, from hill to hill, and from mountain to mountain! From valley to valley across this broad land!
