Yeah, you heard me. I'm excited about anything Taiko no Tatsujin-related (as you may have noticed from my c-blog header), but hearing that the Wii would soon be getting a Taiko title made my day today. The title was spied in Namco-Bandai's 2008 Financial Summary Report, and although all it says is that the game is scheduled to come out in 2008, that's all I need to know. The game is unnamed right now, but here's to hoping we find out more details as the year rolls by. If I could use two Wiimotes as drumsticks ... lord, the applications are endless. I have no idea if it will see an American release, but even if not, I can dash to a friend's house and play it on his modded Wii (I would never allow such a thing in my own house, of course.) Two Wiimotes as drumsticks is a bad idea. Airdrumming isn't fun.
Hopefully this will have a nice taiko controller as the PS2 versions.
I have to agree with paraparaking, i think getting the rhythm would be weird without hitting something, still they could use wii waggle for something else on the game.
Add some Donkey Konga Drums support in there so that I have more than two games which are compatible with them!
PANTS, THEY ARE NO LONGER ON
Oh, yeah. Donkey Konga drum support would be interesting. Though that will be unlikely.
@Colette and King3vbo
Pics or it didn't happen
i may not have understood many words in any of these games
that doesnt mean i wouldnt get it for my wii!!!!
Is this the game I've heard refered to in the U.S as Taiko Drum Master? Is it any good?
Forget just pants, this announcement blew my friggin SKIN off!
Somebody get me to a doctor...
That is the best blog title ever.
A winner is Wii
But what if you were wearing a skirt?!
Colors and shapes = fun. Also, Epilepsy.
please come to the U.S.!!!
As long as the rhythm recognition is good, I won't have a problem with it. Hopefully it turns out better then that horrible horrible music box mini game from Zack and Wiki.
Colette you are the harbinger of joygasms today!!! yay!
*practices wiimote drumming*
I've never played these games but the commercials make me shit on myself.
What did I tell you about taking your pants off in front of company!?
Need video of pants off. NAO.
my pants are off as well...at work...which is kind of awkward..but strangely invigorating
No pants party yes?
Yeah, personally I would want actual drums and sticks. Just imagine air drumming Oni mode. Not pretty.
@Droll
Yes it is. The American track list was a little questionable but actually had most of the good stuff from the comparative Japanese version (ie classical songs, Namco songs, etc). It's really fucking fun IMO.
God YES! This needs to have a dum controller just like the PS2 counterpart. Also, if you haven't yet, download the 2 Taikos that they made for DS. Did I say download? I meant import of course.
YAY for no pants!!!!!
About freaking time.
I expect a lame ass soundtrack from the non-jpn versions.. Time to get one of those Freeloaders!
I feel like the Wiimote's motion sensing might not be sensitive enough to handle the faster beats of taiko. Prove me wrong, Namco. Prove me wrong.
@Dexter345:
Even if it was, there is no way Nintendo would endorse shaking the things at 35Hz.
I have and LOVE the PS2 version w/peripheral in the original Japanese form. If they bring it to Wii they damned well better include lots of wacky asian pop and fun happy music. Nobody plays Taiko Drum King for crappy american justin timebrland/ amercian idol songs.
@Toneman Importing now.
pics or it didnt happen :P
Finally! I've been wanting to play this one for awhile.
Whoever says the wiimotes aren't sensitive enough to accurately work as fast as Taiko goes is absolutely right. My friend and I did a final project for a class called "Wii Drum" which is pretty much like Taiko (except done in a Guitar Hero-style interface). One of the major issues we had was responsiveness and speed. If you have two wii remotes (or even just one and don't mind failing), a bluetooth adapter in your computer, and want to check out our proof-of-concept, you can check out the game at this site:

I could see a drumming game working with wiimotes, but a specialized peripheral is always going to be nicer, in my opinion.
