Taiko Drum Master for Wii: now with inflatable drum photo

In another case of fine patent database snoopery by Siliconera, it's been discovered that Namco-Bandai is developing an inflatable drum controller for a Wii version of Taiko no Tatsujin

The accessory is inflated like a beach ball, and the Wiimote is then stuffed inside like the file your aunt hid in the cake she baked for your uncle Charlie in prison. There's already a Taiko no Tatsujin game on the Wii in Japan, so this could either be a way to save on manufacturing and shipping costs to bring that game stateside, or it could be a new game altogether.

The Wiimote hovers inside of the inflated device, and taps are registered through vibration on either the top or sides of the "drum." I don't know how well that would work out, but it looks like thy're doing it anyway. Personally, I'm just happy to have more Taiko no Tatsujin. Take a look at some diagrams of this thing in the gallery and let us know what you think of it.

Those sentient drums are incredibly cute.

If this actually worked, it would be an interesting step above the annoying hard plastic drum peripherals in the past.

Also, blowup doll for Mr. Sadistic's Wii!

I think that idea is great assuming it works, which it probably won't...

@Danmartigan
Yea, I instantly thought about the fact that they need to be careful how you "insert" the Wiimote or else it will be prone to other things for dirty Wii owners.....

Assuming that this is pertinent to a US release, I wonder if one could import and use a Japanese drum for optional use.

Nothing feels as good or is as satisfying as those PS2 controllers though (except the arcade of course).

Well, it's certainly a better idea than having to air-drum like in that abomination Konami's trying to pass off as a Pop 'N Music game for the Wii.

Haha, I love Spencer! I don't know how he does it, but his snoopery is legendary, bar none! Strong like Donkey Kong!

I've been meaning to play these games, but I really hope to see this released in the States eventually. I think the last Taiko game released here was for the PS2.
