Download a free track from the Dragon Fantasy Book II OST

Dragon Fantasy Book II released last year for PS3 and Vita, improving on Dragon Fantasy Book I with 16-bit graphics and a more fully realized soundtrack. What you may not know is that the soundtrack was composed by our very own corgi-loving Editor-in-Chief, Dale North. What you also may not know is that the soundtrack has debuted at MAGFest and will be going on sale on January 6.

It does a fantastic job of evoking SNES-era role-playing game soundtracks, with tracks ranging from sweeping orchestral pieces fit for untold adventures to funk bass infused tunes appropriate for exploring the more disreputable locations of the fantasy world. And I'm not just saying that because Dale could fire me at a moment's notice! Ha ha ha. Ha. No really, it's good, I promise.

In case you want a free sample, check out "Hypothecary" below or download it from Destructoid's SoundCloud.

Top ten game music tracks to get you pumped for the gym photo
Top ten game music tracks to get you pumped for the gym
by Jayson Napolitano

Like our last issue of The Sound Card, which focused on music to sleep to, this has also been on my back burner for some time. I have over 300 tracks on my exercise playlist in iTunes, and a lot of that is game music. I thought to myself, what better way to bring in the New Year with people hitting the gym to meet those weight loss goals than provide a list of ten tracks that I wouldn't be caught without at the gym!

Admittedly, putting this list together has been the hardest one yet. I had 33 tracks set aside to consider, and I had to make some excruciating cuts, but hey, maybe that leaves the door open to more lists like this in the future. Also, I only stuck to original soundtrack versions of tracks, as opening it up to arrangements (as much as I love them for the gym) would make the task even harder.

Count down with us our top ten picks for tracks to take to the gym, and, as always, chime in with some of your own personal favorites... if you're one of those weirdos who bring game music to the gym!

The winner of Destructoid's best of 2013 soundtrack

A great soundtrack can help make a great game legendary, and can even make a mediocre title memorable. In recent years, more emphasis has been put into crafting a noteworthy and fitting soundtrack for a game, and more compose...

A former Square Enix composer worked on Puzzle & Dragons

So what’s the big stink about Puzzle & Dragons? I was fascinated by the title before it blew up into a huge success for Japanese publisher GungHo, mainly because of Romancing SaGa/Culdcept composer Kenji Ito’s...

Nominees for Destructoid's best of 2013 soundtrack

Though it is often de-emphasized in favor of graphics and gameplay, a great soundtrack can help elevate a game to legendary status, and is often the most fondly remembered element of a game when reminisced on years down the l...

Ragnarok Online 10th anniversary box has lots to look at

We just featured an issue of Note Worthy last week, but I thought the elaborate packaging and contents that GungHo put into the Ragnarok Online 10th Anniversary Package last year deserved its own moment in the spotlight. It i...

So much great game music was released this past month
by Jayson Napolitano

You know the drill: another month, ten more game soundtracks to review. We usually have a pick of the month, but there was so much great music released this time around, I decided to recognize four separate releases as our top picks: Square Enix's Cure SQ and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Nintendo Famicom Music, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

But that's not all, we have some other fun stuff, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Jake Kaufman's Ultionus, and Square Enix's Christmas album. All of this and more, complete with samples, below!

New Square Enix Christmas album is the hotness
