Hey, let's watch someone clear Metroid Prime in 55 minutes

Mmm, Metroid Prime. One of my all-time favorites, and yet it's been far too long since I've last played it. For that matter, I don't know that I've ever watched a speedrun of the game in its entirety. This 55:53 single-segme...

This Mayan-styled Mother Brain painting is amazing

Okay, this might very well be one of the most amazing pieces of video game art I've ever seen. It's a Mayan-styled painting by Redditor NotSureHowItGoes' wife, who is obviously quite the skilled artist. I'm immediately drawn ...

Metroid producer talks two possible Metroid games photo
Metroid producer talks two possible Metroid games
by Chris Carter

Every year at E3, Metroid fans patiently wait for news on a new game -- whether it's 2D or 3D -- it doesn't matter. But for the most part, they don't really get their wish, including this week. According to Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi however, Metroid games (yes, games) are in the works.

Takahasi mentioned that there are two different approaches they could take -- the Metroid Prime style and the traditional 2D style. Ok, so talking about how great those games are is always fun, but here's the kicker -- Takahasi states in interview with Kotaku, "We feel that we need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them."

The key word here is "hope," so that's not an actual confirmation -- but two Metroid games might be in the works. Wow!

Review: NES Remix 2 photo
Review: NES Remix 2
by Chris Carter

NES Remix was able to scratch an itch for many retro enthusiasts out there, but it lacked a certain spark that made it a must-buy for the average gamer. It would be hard to really consider half of the selections "classic," and it lacked any real extras beyond a hit-or-miss array of remixed stages.

But the second time is a charm in this case, because with heavy-hitting newcomers like Kirby's Adventure, Punch Out!!, and Metroid on top of returning franchises like Mario and Zelda, NES Remix 2 really knocks it out of the park in terms of its selection.

Let's celebrate 20 years of Super Metroid with fan art

If you're counting the game's original Japanese release, it's Super Metroid's 20th birthday today! As much as I'd be content to mope around given that Nintendo isn't doing much to please series fans right now, we should inste...

[Read on for a description of every Metroid game ever released in the US, and my completion of them all in 2013.]

As 2012 came to a close, I really enjoyed my opportunity to tackle every Resident Evil, Tony Hawk, Kingdom Hearts, and Wario game ever. In 2013, I took on Mega Man Classic, Mega Man X, Devil May Cry, God of War, and the two new Zelda games.

Before I embark upon the journey of gaming in 2014 however (and all of the Quests that it entails), I have one more Carter's Quest to share with the world.
