Fist of the North Star Musou gameplay pumps up the JAM!

All it took for people to pay attention to Dynasty Warriors was to replace everything about it with a 1983 Manga featuring exploding human flesh. Why didn't Koei Tecmo think of it sooner, eh?  Yes, people are genuinely ...

Koei's Fist of the North Star looks friggin' awesome photo
Koei's Fist of the North Star looks friggin' awesome
by Jim Sterling

Yesterday we found out that Koei was giving Fist of the North Star the Dynasty Warriors treatment, and there was much rejoicing. Now, the very first screenshots have been revealed, along with leaked footage from Koei's recent Japanese press conference, and I have to say that it looks surprisingly awesome.

Warriors games aren't exactly known for their graphical brilliance, but this is looking like some of Omega Force's best work, visually. The gameplay looks suitably violent and unrelenting as well, which is exactly what you want from a game based on the rather brutal Manga where people regularly explode.

Oh, and speaking of exploding people? Yes, Hokuto Musou friggin' has them!

Hit the jump for the video (it's got no sound and is somewhat poor quality, hence being below the fold) and hit our gallery for the screenshots. I am now officially pumped for this game. I'm going to have to go back and re-watch the old movie in preparation. ATATATATATATATATA!

Space Battleship Yamato creator debuts new manga on Wii

Japanator's December Contest: 30 days of giving photo
Japanator's December Contest: 30 days of giving
by 8BitBrian

A lot of things come across my desk over at the Japanator office. Oftentimes, it's kind of hard to do a review of a volume 8 of this series or DVD 13 of that one, simply because I don't want to go and buy all the leadup volumes. So, we put them in a bin, saving them up for a contest at the end of the year. Now it's time to unleash the box and give away something every day.

The contest runs just like Samit's wordplay contest from a few weeks back. I'll prompt you with three categories, and you need to respond with items that fit the bill. Of course, once someone gives a response, it nulls out all future uses of it. The winner will be whoever posted the 75th (at least in today's contest) item. So, it won't necessarily be the 25th respondant -- it might be the 30th or 50th, or anything in between.

Today's contest has just gone live, so head over to Japanator and try and win yourself some anime and manga. Keep coming back, because it'll be a new mystery prize each day. And, I might as well mention that on each Friday, the prizes will be a bit bigger than on the other days.
