Hide your booze in this NES cartridge flask

As the sort of person who did their best drinking at home, I've rarely had need of a flask to secret spirits where they might be unwelcome. I would probably have found a reason if these novelty flasks disguised as NES cartri...

Former BioWare CEO Greg Zeschuk is the Beer Jesus

I don’t think there is anyone who really doubts the legacy of BioWare, easily one of the most influential studios in interactive media. It came as somewhat of a surprise then, when the company’s founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka left the company to pursue other interests -- beer and charity, respectively.

Angry Birds soda outsells Coke and Pepsi in Finland

WUT. No, seriously. WUT. The fact that there is Angry Birds soda isn't what shocks me. You can buy novelty Mega Man and Pac-Man energy drinks. I sampled some very sugary Mario-themed beverages back in the day. Hell, remember ...

Spotlight: Drinking and gaming at Emporium Arcade Bar photo
Spotlight: Drinking and gaming at Emporium Arcade Bar
by Geoff Henao

[Every now and then, Dtoid shines its Spotlight on a games-related artist, event, or place we'd like to share with you guys. Basically, we think this is awesome. Do you think it's awesome?]

Located in Wicker Park, one of Chicago's highlight, nightlife neighborhoods for cool kids and old folk, lies the recently opened Emporium Arcade Bar. Having previously managed the popular Barcade in Brooklyn, NY, Emporium co-owner Danny Marks decided to venture back to Chicago to open up the city's very first arcade bar with his brother Doug Marks.

Myself and fellow Flixist editor Liz Rugg were able to attend a special press opening and had a chance to talk to Doug about the ideas he and Danny have in mind for Emporium's aesthetic, the inspiration for bringing an arcade bar to Chicago, and even a brief history lesson about arcades in the city. For more information on Emporium Arcade Bar, you can read Liz's impressions or visit their website

Ireland's influence in videogames

Well, it's Saint Patrick's Day, and what better way is there to mark the occasion than by doing something flippant and pointless? Naturally, the Irish are fantastic at everything they do (and they're handsome, too), so it's...

The ten best bars in videogames photo
The ten best bars in videogames
by Chad Concelmo

St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend, and, with that, comes a wonderful celebration of the patron saints and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Oh, who am I kidding? It’s St. Patrick’s Day: an excuse to wear green, pinch people, and drink lots and lots of beer.

But going to a bar on this holiday is one of the worst decisions you could ever make. Lines of people; overpriced drinks; people wearing obnoxious “Kiss Me I’m Irish!” buttons even though they aren’t Irish (and most likely couldn’t even point to Ireland on a map). All of this stuff does not add up to a fun night.

But I am here to help! Since I would never advocate excessive drinking (especially to the underage readers of our site), instead of heading to a real-life bar this St. Patty’s Day, how about you spend the day in some of the best digital drinking holes in the world of videogames? It’s safe, free, and you won’t wake up feeling horrible in the morning!

So in celebration of this most drunken of holidays, pull up a stool, start singing “Danny Boy,” and let’s visit the ten best in-game bars ... EVER!
