What do you think about cut scenes?

There are hard line stances against cut scenes ("cheating"!), Kojima considering them a natural outlet for all the movies he watched, and developers considering them one of many useful tools in this new Critical Path&nb...

This 'Flappy Game' mockumentary is probably spot-on

Ah, video game documentaries. Love 'em or hate 'em, you can't argue they're still interesting pieces of film. You know what's even better? Documentary spoofs. And Dorkly's got one that hits a little closer to home than you m...

Pixel Heart is a documentary/game featuring talents from Rez, Journey, more photo
Pixel Heart is a documentary/game featuring talents from Rez, Journey, more
by Steven Hansen

This is confusing, but cool. Pixel Heart is going to be a documentary that visits a bunch of talented, global folks in videogames -- Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez), Robin Hunicke (Sims, Journey), Edmundo Bordeu (Zeno Clash), Mark Healey (Little Big Planet), and Eyram Tawia (Letiarts) -- and then trots back to France for a big game jam.

The game jam will produce 12 games, 6 of which will be available to play online, 6 of which will use some sort of dedicated hardware.

To fund this wild project, Pixel Heart has taken to French crowd funding platform Ulule, which you can donate to regardless of region.

This all sounds amazing, and the crowdfunding video sells it. Seriously, at least watch the kitchen scene at 3:35. It makes A la cartridge look bad (which it obviously is or it wouldn't be #cancelled).

We're all invited to the Atari E.T. landfill excavation

In 1983, Atari buried unsold E.T. the Extra Terrestrial copies in a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Now, it's (finally) being dug up and turned into a mini-documentary courtesy of Xbox Entertainment Studios. The event takes place April 26, 2014 and is open to the public. E.T. designer Howard Scott Warshaw will be there. Will you?

The Last of Us making-of documentary free on Amazon
by Jordan Devore

Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us is a documentary produced by Area 5 and if you have cleared the game's story mode already, it's definitely one for the to-watch list. Better yet, it's actually free on Amazon in the US right now, either to rent or own.

According to Naughty Dog, Grounded will be up on the PlayStation YouTube channel "very soon" for everyone outside of the US in addition to possibly coming to more venues later on.

I watched about half of the movie last night and as ever, I was left baffled at the sheer time, energy, and devotion that goes into making these monstrous games. It's scary.
