We got a brief look at the new Tribute Games joint, Curses 'N Chaos, at PAX East. It's a pared-down, arcade-like action game about two players cooperating to clear waves of foes before the timer hits zero. Super simple, but ...

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime puts two people in a neon spaceship built for eight by Darren Nakamura
Navigating through the outer reaches of space is hard. There are multiple systems to account for, from piloting to shields to weapons control, each with its own specialized training necessary. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime takes all of those essential tasks and leaves them up to a two-person crew on a mission to save space bunnies and fight constellations.
The result is a frantic dash to man the right stations at the right times, and although it looked dire at one point, it was never completely unmanageable. After it was all over, I got to breathe a sigh of relief, and felt closer to my impromptu space lover after having been through the ordeal together.
In announcing that Mercenary Kings would hit PS Vita at PAX East, developer Tribute Games also briefly talked up Curses 'N Chaos, a game which sounded like a mighty good time based on the name alone. After watching this Jona...
With Housemarque's 2010 top-down zombie shooter Dead Nation releasing on PlayStation 4 last month, I had wondered about the status of the long-promised but little-talked-about PS Vita port. It's still coming, we were assured....
Today at PAX East, Vlambeer's Rami Ismail announced that their latest game, Nuclear Throne, will feature cooperative multiplayer. The mode will allow for up to four players to play simultaneously, either locally or over ...
Hyper Light Drifter is on the top of a lot of people's lists of most anticipated games. For good reason, too. The quick-paced, action-RPG with a retro aesthetic looks like it's going to be an absolute pleasure to play. If you're not familiar with it, Alessandro wrote a preview of the build we saw at GDC.
Heart Machine has a new experience to show off for PAX East. Hyper Light Drifter has a cooperative mode that we hadn't gotten to try before. It's basically a horde mode with endlessly spawning enemies. However, unlike most co-op endeavors, your partner could very well be more trouble than he's worth.
Do you remember Gauntlet? It holds a special place in arcade gaming history, but at the same time, it's almost 30 years old. It seems like the perfect time for a remake, doesn't it? Magicka maker Arrowhead Games has the opportunity to give people that remember it a chance to play it again, while introducing the younger audience to an all-time classic.
For those unfamiliar, Gauntlet is a four-person cooperative, dungeon-crawling, beat-'em-up. The original characters -- Warrior, Elf, Valkyrie, and Wizard -- all return for this iteration, and only one of each can be played at a time. Each class has a playstyle that defines them and that will dictate your actions on-screen. A Warrior isn't of much use out of the fray, and the archer-like Elf isn't too effective trying to melee everyone.
Epic has kept mostly quiet about Fortnite for years now and in that time I've gone from being excited to not caring at all to really, really caring. Now that the studio has opened alpha sign-ups and shared a bunch of informat...
This is it for Monaco. Pocketwatch Games has already talked about its next project -- a real-time strategy game called Armada specifically built for gamepads -- and now that it has added a fourth, final chapter to the co-op heist game called Monaco: Fin, "it's time to move on."
Recapping the past several years, lead developer Andy Schatz wrote in a blog post that "EVERYTHING has changed" since development began in 2009. "My design philosophy, our lives, Pocketwatch, indie games as a movement, the internet as a whole." He also called Monaco "the culmination of lifelong dreams" for himself and producer/designer Andy Nguyen.
As for Fin, here's Schatz' description: "This campaign is brutally difficult (all eight levels are as hard as Identity) and it concludes the story of the Gentleman and his nefarious crew."
I vaguely recall Sony announcing that it would pull its servers for the Resistance trilogy on PlayStation 3 this year and it's happening soon. Real soon. Consider this your last chance to play those games online (including co...
As far as "things I want Epic Games to release that aren't Unreal Tournament" go, it's pretty much just Fortnite at this point. The sandbox survival game "might be the best thing we've ever done," according to studio co-found...
[Update: Frima Studios has reached out and informed us that it miscommunicated its statement about not being able to clear the game solo. The game can be beaten singleplayer, but only about 80 percent of the optional paths are accessible without a cooperative partner.]
Of all the titles on display at IGN's independent games mixer at GDC, I couldn't help but be intrigued by one in particular. It was kind of tucked away in a corner, but that didn't mean that it wasn't getting its share of traffic. That's because it immediately looked cute, colorful, and challenging -- three criteria that certainly help indie games flourish. At first glance, it seemed like the kind of game that could win your heart in an instant.
The game in question is Chariot, a co-op platformer by Frima Studios. Chariot's centered around a princess that's out to take her recently deceased father to the resting place of his choosing. She does this by lugging his casket through perilous ancient caves in an effort to please him.
Before GDC, we were joined by some of the fine folks at Sony live on Dtoid.TV. Above is a video of us playing an early build of Helldivers with its Sr. Producer, Mark Rogers.
Helldivers is a game that admittedly went under my radar literally until the moment we showed it off on Dtoid.TV. Then I found out it's being developed by the same folks who brought us Magicka. Then I found out, when it comes out for PS3, PS4, and the PS Vita this summer, Helldivers will allow you to play with friends locally, online, and across all three platforms in any combination. I am super down for this title. It seems our cooperative options are narrowing these days, and that's really the only kind of multiplayer I care about.
Hey you, what if I were to tell you about a free-to-play shooter that has you fighting against zombies. Not impressed? Well, I don't blame you. Zombies are kinda all over the place now. Fine, what about a free-to-play shooter...
Deep Silver has announced a release date for Sacred 3, scheduled to arrive on August 26 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. They also brought the gift of a first gameplay trailer.
I'm a fan of combining the cooperative goal ...
For those of you who missed it, despite it being on almost every platform imaginable, Dungeon Defenders is masterful mixture of co-op, RPG, lootfest, tower defense action. Seriously, you can play it on your phone or it's free with an Xbox Gold membership this month. Go try it! Trendy Entertainment isn't resting on its laurels, as development of Dungeon Defenders 2 is well under way. The fine folks at Trendy recently sat down with Max Scoville to show of a sizeable chunk of pre-alpha gameplay of the work in progress, and talk about the advancements and changes they are implementing in DD2.
