I don't care if you like Halo 4, or any game in the series for that matter. Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is far and away the best example of how to adapt a videogame franchise to a live-action setting. I watched it expecting lit...

Wii U v3.0.0 update is live! OMG NO MORE OVERSCAN!!! photo
Wii U v3.0.0 update is live! OMG NO MORE OVERSCAN!!!
by Tony Ponce

The Wii U version 3.0.0 update went live a short while ago, introducing a host of fixes and other significant tweaks. Of all the new features introduced, the one I'm most excited about is NO MORE OVERSCAN!!! WOOOOOOO!

That may sound like such a minor thing to be bothered by, but it bugged me personally to no end. Having the edges of the screen cut off and possibly missing out on important information just outside of my view? Balls to that! Unfortunately, my TV is such that I couldn't manually adjust for overscan, leaving me to pray that Nintendo would eventually address this issue.

Consider this problem addressed! A new TV settings option allows you to scale the size of your picture should your TV be among those that were held back a few years in school. Previously, this tweak was only available within certain apps like the Miiverse and the Internet browser, but now you can apply the changes on a universal level -- you can see the before and after comparisons in the gallery. After being told several times I should suck it up and buy a new TV, I feel vindicated.

Bone up on the rest of the changes further down.

YES! Shin Megami Tensei IV confirmed for North America photo
YES! Shin Megami Tensei IV confirmed for North America
by Dale North

This is NOT AN APRIL FOOL'S DAY JOKE. Repeat: This is not an April Fool's Day Joke. If it was, faces would be bloodied.

Atlus has confirmed with us that the next game in the Shin Megami Tensei role-playing game series is finally coming our way this summer. 3DS game Shin Megami Tensei IV has been teasing us from afar with frequent Japan-specific news updates on the title, but now we finally get ours. Finally!

We get it all, including StreetPass functionality and voiced dialogue. The Press Turn system returns, as does demon collection. Speaking of, there are more than 400 demons to collect and fuse this time around.

Atlus says that they've used their best to create this game, pulling members from the Nocturne, Strange Journey, Soul Hackers, and Persona teams. In my book, these are the best games out there, so that's great news.

Atlus plans to release SMTIV as a premium title this summer. Expect more details soon. For now, check the newly launched official site.

Ni no Kuni is #1 in the UK, sold out in many shops

Whoa! A gun violence talk that does NOT blame games! photo
Whoa! A gun violence talk that does NOT blame games!
by Tony Ponce

It might be easy to label all major news pundits as being dangerously ignorant of videogames, especially when it concerns sexual or violent content. However, we ought to know better than to paint everyone with the same broad brush strokes. Believe it or not, there are in fact media personalities who don't immediately jump on the "games are evil" narrative.

Earlier today, Jim discussed CNN's Erin Burnett and her obvious agenda. But on the very same channel, we have Anderson Cooper, a man far more sensible and open-minded than his peers.

Last night, I tuned in to Cooper's Town Hall: Guns Under Fire special, where a guest panel discussed possible ways to address gun violence in America in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting and related events. While videogames weren't the primary focus of the discussion, the topic undoubtedly came up, and I'm pleased that they were able to address it in a cool, level-headed manner.

What? WHAT? WHAAAAT!? WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!?

Suck it down! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Hell yeah!

The cover of November's Nintendo Power features our half-genie starlet in full pirate garb, teaming up with her archnemesis Risky Boots for as of yet unknown reasons. At the end of Risky's Revenge, Shantae lost her magic, so it'll be exciting to see how she handles her new threats in this upcoming eShop sequel.

More details are bound to appear soon. In the meantime, GET EXCITE.

Retro City Rampage is out October 9 on PS3, Vita, and PC photo
Retro City Rampage is out October 9 on PS3, Vita, and PC
by Tony Ponce

Retro City Rampage. October 9, 2012. PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PC. You read that correctly.

Brian Provinciano's NES-style Grand Theft Auto parody has been cooking for just over a decade, and when it missed its proposed May release earlier this year, it felt like development would continue forever. But with a launch date set for next Tuesday, there's no way RCR will get the bump again... right?

The game costs $14.99. Should you buy it over PSN, you'll receive copies for both PS3 and Vita. It'll also be available over Steam and GOG.com, or you could buy the DRM-free version through the game's homepage and receive a free download code from either Steam and GOG.com as a bonus. This only applies to the US release; Europe will have to wait until later in October.

But what of the WiiWare and XBLA versions? Brian says that WiiWare should be getting its fix shortly following PSN, while XBLA will get its due once a release slot is finalized. Excited yet?
