Review: Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit! photo
Review: Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit!
by Brittany Vincent

Some may call Senran Kagura inherently tasteless, but the series of action-packed brawlers has depth and satisfying combat. The games have swept the handheld community mainly because of their increasingly risqué content, but their best-kept secret is that they're just plain fun.

Yeah, there's a whole lot of indecent exposure in each of the Senran Kagura games. No one's disputing that. But so what? These are genuinely fun and engaging titles, and the latest spinoff under the Senran Kagura umbrella is no different. Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit! may be lighthearted and riddled with thinly veiled jokes about male anatomy, but it's also a challenging rhythm game skewed toward an adult audience that can be enjoyed by just about anyone -- especially if you like your sundaes with Senran Kagura girls on top. Just don't expect award-winning prose or Grammy-nominated tracks.

Akiba's Trip coming to PS4 on November 25 photo
Akiba's Trip coming to PS4 on November 25

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed is coming to PlayStation 4 on November 25, XSEED Games unveiled today.

The otaku beat-'em-up arrived on PS3 and Vita back in August, and earned a favorable appraisal from our own Brittany Vincent. In her review, Brittany called the game "an interesting culture shock of a good time," recommending it to fans of quirky Japanese games.

The PS4 version vaunts a number of enhancements unseen in the original release, include upgraded visuals, a host of customization options, chat commands that can impact gameplay during livestreams, plus more dialogue scenes and folks walking around Akihabara.

It also bundles in all downloadable content released for the PS3 and Vita iterations as standard, but carries a slightly more expensive price tag at $50.

Senran Kagura Bon Appétit launches in North America on November 11, Marvelous announced today. The PlayStation Vita exclusive will then arrive in Europe the following day.

The rhythm game is a spin-off of "the popular bouncy ninja series," which sees the girls set aside their weapons for a change to engage in a cooking competition. Bon Appétit features ten "infectious" songs as standard, with more coming later as downloadable content.

Marvelous says all character and costume DLC from Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus is compatible with Bon Appétit. Furthermore players who purchase the "Gessen x Hebijo DLC pack" will have access to the game's soundtrack via a bonus music app.

Both the base game and expansion will retail for $15 apiece.

Review: Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed
by Brittany Vincent

When you're faced with imminent danger, what's the first thing you do? Do you gear up to fight back? Do you see if you can land the first punch? Or do you take all of your clothing off? I'm guessing that's a pretty uncommon reaction, though it's something you'll get used to seeing on a regular basis within Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed.

The otaku-come-Yakuza special is actually Akiba's Trip 2 in Japan, and it's the first time the series has reached Western audiences, who may or may not have been ready for its bizarre machinations. But for those who were willing and able to take the trip, what awaited them was a strange and colorful world full of plenty to do and discover.

Oh, and a whole lot of underwear.
