Hellraid won't be ready in time for release this year

Between Hellraid and Dying Light, it's the former Techland game I'm more curious about. (I'm burned out on the developer's zombie titles. Can you blame me?) While this does rather blatantly look like a project from the people...

Dying Light is surprisingly fun, and pretty damn intense photo
Dying Light is surprisingly fun, and pretty damn intense

Spencer Hayes and I got some quality time with Techland's Dying Light and we both came away pretty surprised from the experience. The game features a day and night cycle, and the day time stuff we played was pretty average. We knew what to expect, especially after playing games like Dead Island, another open world zombie game from Techland.

But then the night time stuff came up and holy crap the game gets super intense. More importantly, Dying Light becomes way more fun. The zombies transform in runner style zombies like the ones from Left 4 Dead and they become relentless in chasing you down. My heart was seriously racing as I tried to escape the horde, so they've certainly nailed down the horror aspect.

So here's what Dead Island: Epidemic looks like

In Dead Island: Epidemic -- which is inexplicably a MOBA, if you missed the news -- three teams of four players each have to fend off zombies while also worrying about one another. And instead of base destruction being the wi...

This gameplay video shows what Dying Light's all about

A 12-minute gameplay video of Techland's Dying Light has surfaced, and it seems like "Fight or Flight" may have also been an appropriate title for the game. The free-running mechanics are on full display, and it looks f...

Dying Light feels, well, a lot like Dead Island photo
Dying Light feels, well, a lot like Dead Island

Despite it's oversaturation years ago, apparently zombie culture isn't going to die down any time soon. A steady stream of zombie-centric media is constantly flowing, and Techland is more than willing to take advantage of the craze. Dying Light is just the latest example.

If you're unfamiliar with Techland, it's the developer behind the Dead Island games. A lot of the same ideas from Dead Island are present in Dying Light, but the approach has changed a bit.

The obligatory CGI trailer for Techland's Dying Light

In typical Techland fashion, our first look at Dying Light in motion stems from a CGI trailer. I'm hopeful this is a good indication of the general vibe the studio is going for with its freerunning-centric zombie survival ti...

Hellraid gameplay trailer has so many skeletons in it

Techland's first-person fantasy slash-em-up Hellraid has my attention with this new trailer, which features zombie knights and skeleton warriors dying by the bucketload. It's being compared to Hexen, and that may be valid --...

Review: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger photo
Review: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
by Jim Sterling

Call of Juarez is a series I've always wanted to enjoy. It's hard not to admire its attempts at clever storytelling, and the commitment to creating a wild west first-person shooter in an age where everything's about blasting terrorists with shotguns. Sadly, it's a series that never lived up to its potential.

The last game in the series, The Cartel, was the worst by far, to the point where I was legitimately shocked another game in the series was coming. So utterly atrocious was The Cartel, I was sure Gunslinger would be no better, and Ubisoft's near-silent promotion of the game wasn't instilling much confidence.

Just goes to show that you can never predict a damn thing. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is the best damn game in the series.

Dying Light is an open world, freerunning zombie game

Okay, take Dead Island's entire concept, subtract the role-playing mechanics, throw in freerunning features akin to Mirror's Edge, and set it all in an open world that features a day-and-night cycle where things become way ha...

Hellraid trailer looks sufficiently hellish and raid-like
