3DS surpasses 10 million sold

Nintendo sends word that Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds helped push up hardware sales. This makes sense to me as both titles are in my top five for the year. Hardware sales for Ninten...

The best and worst games of the week - Game of the Month photo
The best and worst games of the week - Game of the Month
by Wesley Ruscher

Thank goodness November is finally over. It was a hectic month -- that will go down in gaming history as one of the greatest ever -- thanks, in no part, to the launch of two brand spanking new consoles from both Sony and Microsoft.

There was also the usual flood of major releases primed for the holiday madness like Tearaway, Forza Motorsport 5, Killzone: Shadow Fall, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

But more importantly there was one title that grabbed the attention of the Destructoid staff more than any other game this month and perhaps is just the kick a certain Nintendo console needs to sell like hotcakes this winter season.

Scroll to the bottom to see our  November Game of the Month winner!

Every green star & hidden stamp in Super Mario 3D World photo
Every green star & hidden stamp in Super Mario 3D World
by Wesley Ruscher

I'm still waiting to get my paws (you see what I did there) on Super Mario 3D World, as I unfortunately had to pick at least one game to leave on my Christmas list or I'd feel the fury from my lovely girlfriend.

But if you've been busy scratching away at the latest Nintendo masterpiece, and are maybe having a hard time locating all 380 green stars or the 85 stamps hidden throughout, don't worry the folks over at GameXplain got your back covered. Their latest video walkthrough points the way to every secret item in just about 60 minutes.

Wow, that's like seven hidden items a minute!

Warning: If you don't want any of the game's locations spoiled, be warned that the video uses all in-game footage.

See those adorable Japanese McDonald Mario toys in action

Remember those awesome Japanese Mario Happy Meal toys we showed last week? Well now there are a bunch a video's confirming just how cool they are.  Okay... well maybe they aren't that cool, but they would look pretty classy on any gaming shelf. And who could resist Mario in a penguin suit scooting across a table?

The best and worst games of the week - Xbox One is here!
by Wesley Ruscher

After last week's PlayStation 4 review domination, Microsoft finally got it's chance to strut its stuff with the Xbox One. Forza Motorsports 5, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon, Ryse, and a handful of other exclusive titles flooded our pages this week. But regardless of all the Xbox One hype, their games were far from the biggest titles of the week.

Two titles, fin fact, garnered our coveted 10 out of 10 score. Nintendo's Super Mario 3D World and from Little Big Planer creators, Media Molecule, Tearaway. If you've been holding out on either the Wii U or PS Vita, you may have just found your first two must have system-selling titles of the year.

Goombas almost never made it into Super Mario Bros.

For many, the Goomba was the very first enemy they ever encountered in a video game. The squishy mushroom-eque adversary of Mario has been famously trying to thwart the Italian plumber for over 25 years to little success -- ...

We mentioned a few days back that we had an interview with Nintendo composers Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo regarding their work on Super Mario 3D World in the works. Well, here it is!

The two take the time to share with us how cats influenced the game, their thoughts on the great cats vs. dogs debate, and some surprises that we'll hear when it comes to the game's soundtrack.

Super Mario 3D World is shameless and I love it

Here's what I think happened: Nintendo was planning on leaving a lot of room for third parties to take the spotlight on the Wii U, as they often complain that Nintendo gobble up all the game sales on their own consoles. Then ...
