The ambitious mod project formally known as World of StarCraft is now being released on Battle.net as StarCraft Universe.

This giant mod is really a whole new game built with StarCraft II's tool set. It's a masively-multiplayer online game featuring classes, character customization with skills and abilities, raids for players to tackle together, and player vs. player content if you don't feel like working together.

StarCraft Universe will be free to play if you own StarCraft II. Just search for it on Battle.net in the mod section.

Trends of this Generation: The Rise of eSports photo
Trends of this Generation: The Rise of eSports
by Daniel Starkey

Leading up the possible PlayStation 4 announcement on February 20, I've been looking into some paradigm shifts we've seen over the past generation. This is stuff that will likely be with us for a while; these are things that I think will continue on for at least a decade to come.

So far, we've already taken looks at motion controls and consoles becoming more like all-in-one media centers, and today I'll be continuing my series by exploring the incredible popularity of eSports.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm will launch on 3/12/13 photo
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm will launch on 3/12/13
by Chris Carter

Kerrigan is back, baby! Come this March 12th, you'll be able to rip apart your enemies and spread the swarm: StarCraft II: Heart of Swarm finally has a release date. This kinda-sorta expansion comes with an all new Zerg single player campaign, new mechanics like race leveling, and new units.

In typical Blizzard fashion, there are three options here. The Standard Edition ($39.99), Collector's Edition ($79.99), and the Digital Deluxe Edition ($59.99). If you're really excited, you can pre-purchase the game now on Battle.net.

I wasn't completely in love with StarCraft II's multiplayer, and I doubt this will do much to change that fact, but the Terran campaign was off the chain. I expect nothing less here in terms of a solid single player experience.
