Boy, The Hong Kong Massacre sure looks like Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami by way of Stranglehold or any other John Woo flick, at least. Which is appropriate for the setting. Though I'm also reminded of Michael Mann's Miami Vice movie for some reason. I guess it can't exactly be Hotli...

Kero Blaster stars a frog businessman

So Kero Blaster is apparently pretty much finished, despite Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya (Cave Story) originally scrapping the entire project (known as Gero Blaster) and doing the whole game over. It stars a businessman frog and hi...

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds free Zomboss Down DLC photo
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds free Zomboss Down DLC
by Jordan Devore

I'm not sure which alternate dimension Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare came from or how it got here but PopCap's wacky third-person shooter has been a pleasant surprise. Against all odds, the game keeps on giving: another free DLC pack called Zomboss Down is out today, adding eight new characters and the Cactus Canyon map for Gardens and Graveyards mode.

The character level cap has also been increased to level 30, complete with new challenges to conquer, and there are 200+ customization items for the new cast of plants and zombies. Even though the last DLC release was free, I'm still surprised to see this one follow the same plan and PopCap not overwhelm players with microtransactions. Gosh, what a terrific game.

One more time: Dead Nation hits PS Vita later today

With Housemarque's 2010 top-down zombie shooter Dead Nation releasing on PlayStation 4 last month, I had wondered about the status of the long-promised but little-talked-about PS Vita port. It's still coming, we were assured....

Cult of the Wind might just be the funniest arena shooter

A third-person shooter in which combatants are humans pretending to be airplanes -- this is Cult of the Wind. Despite the usual fears that something like this will lose its audience not long after launching, I'm so charmed b...

Impressions: Broforce photo
Impressions: Broforce
by Alasdair Duncan

Whether it's the smartass name or the numerous references to action stars, there's nothing subtle about Broforce. Then there's the seemingly never-ending barrage of explosions and showers of pixelated blood that make the stage look like a particularly frustrating Super Meat Boy level.

Broforce is now on Steam's Early Access service, and whilst there's plenty of features on offer in its current state, there's still some work needed to just nail that core gameplay.

Broforce now available on Steam Early Access photo
Broforce now available on Steam Early Access
by Conrad Zimmerman

I really want Broforce in my life. As of today, that can be a reality as the game has launched in Steam Early Access. You may now feel free to exchange $14.99 for the ability to play on PC or Mac.

A new trailer has also been released to stoke any flames of desire you may presently hold for platform shooters, with examples of environmental destruction, special abilities and a whole lot of explosions. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go grab my wallet.

This trailer for Warside doesn't let up for a second

Rockstar will add heists to GTA Online this spring photo
Rockstar will add heists to GTA Online this spring
by Jordan Devore

Rockstar has detailed what it has in store for GTA Online and while there's quite a lot of content planned, my eyes went straight for the line about the long-awaited Heist Missions. They're coming at some point this spring -- that's all the company was willing to say. Drat!

Next week, players will be able to create their own Capture Jobs if they're tired of making and playing Deathmatches and Races. There's also the High Life Update in the works -- it will allow players to own a second property with another garage, introduce the Mental State player statistic so we know how crazy our peers are, and add stuff like the Ballpup Rifle, the Dinka Thrust motorcycle, more cars, and additional high-end apartments.

Beyond this, Rockstar says holiday-themed content is scheduled for GTA Online as well and it'll be rolling out Story Mode DLC eventually. There's also a preview of upcoming changes to the game that will be delivered by way of title updates and dynamic tuning, viewable below.
