Dungeons II takes a humorous approach to being the bad guy photo
Dungeons II takes a humorous approach to being the bad guy
by Alessandro Fillari

Being the bad guy has its perks. With an entire force of orcs, goblins, and other nasty creatures at your bidding, more gold you can count, and a near infinite supply of dark magic at your disposal -- it seems like you've got things pretty much handled in your conquest of the world. But fate seems to have other plans. And with a snarky disembodied voice mocking you and narrating your journey, it certainly looks like your quest for power will be a lot more difficult than you thought.

This is what you can expect in the upcoming sequel to Dungeons. During a private session at a press event by Kalypso Media, I got to spend some hands-on time with their upcoming Dungeon Keeping/RTS hybrid title Dungeons II, that aims to take a light-hearted and comedic approach to being the evilest villain in all the land.

Fable Legends combines Left 4 Dead with Dungeons and Dragons photo
Fable Legends combines Left 4 Dead with Dungeons and Dragons
by Darren Nakamura

For better or worse, Fable is one of the staple series for Xbox consoles. Since its beginning as a relatively simple action-RPG, it has seen some entries go off in various directions. Fable Legends is another game that takes the core gameplay and spins it off into something unique for the franchise.

Rather than focusing on a single player adventure with highly customizable character progression, heroes in Fable Legends are one of four set characters, and the four venture together to take on more action-oriented challenges. It might be a far cry from main series Fable, but it works well.

Gateway drug: Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies photo
Gateway drug: Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies
by Dale North

Standalone multiplayer release for Company of Heroes 2, The Western Front Armies, can serve as a gateway, bringing players over to the full Company of Heroes 2 experience. Its pricing is low enough ($12.99 for one army, or $19.99 for both) that even the curious can jump in and try their hand at WWII strategy from either the U.S. or German Oberkommando West viewpoints.

I know that Company of Heroes 2 is a great game, but I haven't given it the time its worth. But sitting down to play a bit of The Western Front Armies for our first hands-on report turned into an hour-long session that I had to break myself away from. Well, actually, the game did that for me.
