Forza Horizon 2 won't have 'token' microtransactions

Forza Horizon 2 creative director Ralph Fulton told Digital Spy that it would eschew the series' microtransaction currency, tokens. "The approach we've taken is that we've designed our game at Playground Games from ...

Video: Bust up some guy's vineyard in Forza Horizon 2

In Forza Horizon 2, you're headed to Southern Europe. We sent one of our video guys, the energetic Mike Cosimano, to check it out at E3. He really, really dug the last Horizon and it sounds like the sequel is more of the same on a grander scale, for better or worse. That includes Drivatars. They're back, with a vengeance.

Driveclub vs. Forza Horizon 2 at E3 2014

The Xbox and PlayStation booths are directly next to each other in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center for E3 2014 this year, which made it really convenient to compare two upcoming racing games. I put the dela...

Driveclub has the best dynamic weather engine I've ever seen photo
Driveclub has the best dynamic weather engine I've ever seen
by Dale North

At E3 yesterday, Evolution Studios showed off a brand new build of Driveclub that highlights their impressive weather simulation system. This build was so new that it needed to be streamed over from the art director's computer to a PS4 development kit. They showed some stunning, absolutely photorealistic visuals running in real time in both Scotland and Norway.

Driveclub already looked great, but this weather system takes it over the top.

The Crew is a high speed racing roadtrip with friends photo
The Crew is a high speed racing roadtrip with friends
by Brett Makedonski

Any fan of racing games will tell you that all titles in the genre aren't created equal. Far from it, in fact. It's a nuanced category, as the more realistic games that strive to be simulators often appeal to different types of people compared to the ones that are drawn to arcade-like racers. They're worlds apart.

Ubisoft's The Crew deftly spans that gap. And, while it may not be crossing worlds, it literally traverses the United States, which feels like an appropriately big adventure.

Why the heck is Forza Horizon 2 trying to get me killed? photo
Why the heck is Forza Horizon 2 trying to get me killed?
by Steven Hansen

Driving is dangerous. We take it for granted, but you're more likely to die driving to the airport than zipping through the air a mile high in a heavy, metal tube. I am pretty okay at driving, but I am notably not great at driving video games. I crash a lot, even while speeding through a track designed for the sole purpose of being driven on.

I picked the loudest, yellowest Lamborghini. The camera zoomed in and showed little specs of water on the car as if had just went through a wash. I hit start race. Then Forza Horizon 2 tried to have me killed.

Criterion's new IP is all about speed and multiple vehicles photo
Criterion's new IP is all about speed and multiple vehicles
by Alasdair Duncan

Criterion's Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit was one of my favorite games of the last console generation, so the news that the team is working on a brand new IP that goes beyond racing is really exciting.

At EA's press conference, very early alpha footage was shown of the still unnamed title that showed players using all kinds of vehicles from speedboats to helicopters in what looks to be a huge open-world, racing playground.

This could be really cool as some of the concept art we saw was neat, from jet skis flying down a water slide to a player diving from a crashing helicopter onto an ATV.

Forza Horizon 2 will display at 1080p, running at 30 frames per second

So it seems Forza Horizon 2, unlike Forza 5, will not be running at 60 frames per second. While it will still display in 1080p, the open-world nature of Horizon doesn't seems to play nice with the idea of a locked 60fps rate,...

What's your favorite Mario Kart 8 track?

For me, it's unquestionably Mount Wario. The snowy setting, the fact that it's all one giant course, that final adrenaline rush of a descent down the slopes toward the finish line -- I love it so much. But there are quite a f...

Review: Mario Kart 8 photo
Review: Mario Kart 8
by Chris Carter

After the first three console entries, Mario Kart and I have had a semi-bumpy ride. After hundreds, possibly thousands of hours spent playing Super Mario Kart, 64, and Double Dash, I didn't have the same fervor as I once did from the DS iteration on.

I barely played Mario Kart Wii due to a lack of interest, and I was let down in many ways by the underwhelming Mario Kart 7. But thanks to the magic of Mario Kart 8, I'm all in again just like the olden days. It helps that it's one of the most gorgeous and breathtaking games on the market right now.
